John "Jack" Call

Biography

Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather died peacefully on January 17, 2014. John (Jack) Robinson Call was born on December 1, 1923 in Ogden, Utah, to William Odell Call and Bertha Diana Robinson Call.
He married Stella Lorraine Bekker in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on December 8, 1943.
He served in World War II as a gunner and tank commander. He graduated from the University of Utah in Civil Engineering in 1950. Stella died unexpectedly on May 28, 1975. He then married Betty Louise Haacke Winegar October 2, 1975 in the LDS Salt Lake Temple.
Jack played football and basketball at Weber High and the University of Utah. He loved fishing, boating, traveling, flying airplanes and being with his family. He owned, operated and managed the consulting firm, Call Engineering, for many years. His firm conducted the first engineering studies on the now Jordan River Parkway.
He was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many callings. Jack and Betty served an LDS service mission doing microfilm extraction in Nevada and Louisiana. Jack later served a mission at the Church Office Building as an engineering consultant.
Jack is survived by his children: Cheryl (DeMonte) Pierce, Jan Fisher, Debbie (Van) Stosich, and Jackie (Steve) Duerden; his step-children, Bruce (Karen) Winegar, Brian (DeLee) Winegar, Val (Pam) Winegar, Greg, (Leola) Winegar and Alice (Lee R.) Murdoch; many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 25, 2014, at the Bountiful 2nd Ward Chapel, 650 S. 200 E. Bountiful, UT, with a viewing from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. Family and friends may also attend a viewing on Friday, January 24, 2014, from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brother’s Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful. Interment will be at Bountiful City Cemetery.
