John Jason Coyle

April 13, 1976- January 3, 2019 (Age 42)

John Jason Coyle, having been born of goodly parents on April 13, 1976 in Bountiful, Utah, passed from mortality into eternity on January 3, 2019 after collapsing in the locker room following a swim workout.  Jason lived his life full-tilt from the first breath he took to his very last moment on earth.  Our Jason grew from boy to man in Centerville and is the favorite son, brother, husband and most importantly, dad, to a family that loves him dearly.  

Jason’s accomplishments were many and diverse.  He was an artist, an Eagle Scout, Junior Class President at Viewmont High School, record-holding competitive swimmer and a returned missionary from Rio de Janeiro.  When he wasn’t busy conquering the world, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications from the University of Utah and a Master of Education degree from Utah State University. 

When Jason settled down to start a career, he became a teacher (after working hard to convince his wife it wasn’t the worst idea of all time). Our avid sesquipedalian (look it up) loved teaching English at Bountiful Junior High. Mr. Coyle’s students were important to him, and they adored him.

Jason was passionate about competitive swimming and biking. He swam religiously with the South Davis Masters Swim Team and loved long distance open water swims. He swam across Bear Lake several times and completed the Triple Crown of Utah Open Water Swimming. Jason was also devoted to biking.  He loved to ride ridiculously long distances with his biking brothers on wheels.  He cared for his bicycles more meticulously than he cared for his cars.

However, the most important part of Jason’s life was his beautiful wife and four cherished children. Jason and Anita (Randall) married in October 1999 in the Salt Lake Temple. It was a match made in pioneer trek heaven.  Each treasured addition to their family brought more joy, adventure, and exponential love. 

Jason’s superpowers were love and service. He made friends wherever he went and was generous with his colossal bear hugs. His laugh filled every room he was in. He will be missed so profoundly by every person who knew him.  This larger-than-life man’s passing leaves a great void in the lives of his family, friends, brothers-in-spirit, teammates, coworkers, students, and everyone who will never have the chance to know him in this life. 

Jason leaves a legacy of love, service, humor and an unwavering testimony of Jesus Christ that will stand as the perfect example of a life well-lived.

The Coyle family would like to thank the pool staff at the South Davis Recreation Center, the Bountiful City Police Department and paramedics for the efforts made on Jason’s behalf. 

Jason is survived by his wife (Anita), four beautiful children (Indiana, Oliver, Oscar, and Owen), his father (John), four sisters (Jaclynn, Jennifer, JoHanna -Clark Williams- and Jessica), mother and father-in-law (Randy and Jane Randall) and a large extended family of in-laws that he cherished.  He is preceded in death by his beloved mother (Linda). 

Friends and family are invited to visit at a viewing to be held Friday, January 11 at Russon Mortuary-Farmington (1941 North Main St., Farmington, UT) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.  Services will convene at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 12 at the Farmington South Stake Center (695 S 200 E, Farmington, Utah). A viewing prior to the funeral will be held at the stake center from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Interment in the Farmington City Cemetery.
