John Jensen

Biography

After a long battle of health issues related to liver disease, John Daniel Jensen passed away peacefully in his home on Sunday, November 18, 2012. He was surrounded by his family and those who love him in his last days. John was 71 at the time of his death.
John was born August 30, 1941 in Provo, Utah to Leah and Vernon Jensen. He was the oldest of three children. His father was in the FBI and his family moved around a lot when he was a child. They lived in Oregon, Washington, California, Montana and Idaho. John was a junior in high school when they moved to Pocatello, Idaho. John graduated from Pocatello High School in 1959. He was very active in high school activities and loved wrestling and playing football.
John attended the University of Utah on a football scholarship from 1959 to 1964. He loved playing football for the Ute’s and was proud to call himself a “Utah Man”. He graduated from the U of U in June 1964 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He specialized in Fire Protection Engineering and worked in that field for 47 years. He owned his own Fire Protection Consulting business for 16 years during that time.
John met his wife Judy Robinson in October 1963 at a Halloween party, while they were both living in Salt Lake City with their aunts. They were married on June 19, 1964 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Their honeymoon consisted of driving from Salt Lake City to Los Angeles where John had a new job working as an engineer. John and Judy have two daughters: Julie Ann Jensen and Jennifer Sue Nys. They lived in California until 1973 when they moved to Idaho Falls, Idaho. After John’s retirement in 2005 they moved to Centerville, Utah to be close to their daughters.
John loved spending time with his family. One of his favorite pastimes was playing games with his family and friends. He was passionate about traveling and going to new places. He traveled to each of the 50 states. John loved the outdoors and enjoyed doing anything outside especially hiking, water skiing, snow skiing and fly fishing. He enjoyed photography and also reading a good Tom Clancy book. He was always proud of his daughters and their accomplishments. John loved being a Grandpa and one of his favorite activities was playing Legos with his grandsons.
John was an active member of the LDS Church. Over the years he had callings in all of the different organizations. He especially enjoyed working with the scouts and helping them get their scouting badges.
John leaves behind his wife, Judy Robinson Jensen, daughters Julie Jensen and Jennifer Nys (Dan), grandchildren John Nys, Elijah Nys and Ella Nys, brother William D. Jensen (Jorgene) and sister Betty Murri (Wayne). John was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Leah Jensen and his grandson, Hayden Hoxsie Nys.
Funeral Services will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main St, Bountiful UT. Viewing times will be Friday, Nov 23rd from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Nov 24th from 9:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Funeral Services will begin at 11 a.m. He will be buried in the Centerville Cemetery.
The family would like to thank all of the many doctors, nurses and caregivers that provided such good care to John.
