JOHN NIELSEN &qoute;JACK&qoute; JORGENSEN

1917 – 2010

Jack Jorgensen, age 92, our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away on Monday, February 1, 2010, of causes incident to age at the Inn on Barton Creek Assisted Living in Bountiful, Utah.

Jack was born on September 16, 1917, in Hyrum, Utah, to John Wilford Jorgensen and Nana Elfrida Nielsen. He was the 4th child in a family of 6 boys and 6 girls. He attended schools in Cache Valley and graduated from Utah State University in forestry. He married Ilene Maughan in Logan, Utah, on May 15, 1940. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Logan Temple. As jobs were scarce, he and Ilene decided to look for permanent work in Los Angeles, California, and departed from Utah in September 1940, where he began a 43-year working history at Lockheed Aircraft/Missile Corp, first as an aircraft assembler and then as supervisor of precision assembly. He then became a test mechanic and test systems supervisor on Ram Jet engines at Alamogordo, New Mexico. As this program terminated, he went into the Polaris and Poseidon missile programs in 1961, being stationed at Hercules Powder Company at Magna, Utah, as the Senior Resident Field Engineer until his retirement on March 1, 1983. He was considered a conscientious and trusted employee of Lockheed.

Dad applied his talents of hard work and precision in all aspects of his life. It was said of him that he could fix anything, and was always willing to help family and neighbors. Dad was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and was especially proud of his Norwegian heritage. Dad loved nature and working out of doors, and spent a lot of hours beautifying the various family homes. He and mom spent their retirement years cruising the world and especially enjoyed visiting his mother’s homeland in Kasfjord, Norway. Dad enjoyed deer and elk hunting, even into his 88th year, and salmon fishing. When he finally retired, he and Ilene took up golf.

Survived by two sons, J. Dean Brenda Jorgensen, of Lehi, Utah; James B. Jorgensen, Manchester, New Hampshire; and a daughter, Nancy George Miles, of Kaysville, Utah; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and 1 great-grandson to arrive in March; a brother, Reed Gail Jorgensen, Providence, Utah; sisters, Gladys Blaine Parker, Riverdale, Utah, and Gloria Johnson, Logan, Utah. Preceding him in death are his spouse; parents; brothers, Arthur, Leonard, Max, and Howard; and sisters, Mildred, Colleen, Virginia, and Joan.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff at the Inn on Barton Creek Assisted Living, Bountiful, Utah, where he resided the last 2 years of his life, and also the staff of Caregivers Support Network. They all lovingly and patiently guided us in his care during his last struggles and severe limitations from dementia and Parkinson’s disease.

Funeral services will be held Friday, February 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 N. Main, Farmington, UT. Friends and family may visit Thursday evening from 6-8 pm at Russon Brothers Mortuary, and Friday from 9:45-10:45 prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
