John R Clawson

June 29, 1926 — May 26, 2018

"Well Done Thou Good and Faithful Servant"
Smiling and laughing right up to the very end, our kind and caring father and grandpa, John R. Clawson, passed away May 26, 2018 in Bountiful, Utah surrounded by his loving family.
John, or "Jack" as he was known by many, was born June 29, 1926 in Pocatello, Idaho.  He was raised in Ogden, Utah and graduated from Ogden High School where he excelled in academics and sports.  He graduated with a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Utah.
He served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps, stationed in Japan.  After the war, Jack was called to be a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints, also in Japan.  It was on his mission that he first laid eyes on his eternal companion, the love of his life, Philomena, who was serving as a Sister Missionary.
Jack and Philomena were married June 30, 1951 in the Laie Hawaii Temple.  They made their first home in Salt Lake City while Jack completed his college education.  Over the years they lived in Utah, Hawaii, Washington, Oregon and then again in Utah.  They raised four sons whom they adored and in return, their boys loved and honored their parents.
Jack was a devoted member of the LDS Church.  He served as a Missionary, Bishop, High Counselor, Temple Worker and many other callings.  In 2001 Jack and Philomena served as Senior Missionaries on the Big Island of Hawaii and loved their time there.  Together they lived lives totally devoted to their Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ.
Though life presented Jack with many significant challenges, he was always upbeat and happy.  If ever you were having a bad day, all you had to do was spend some time with Jack and you would automatically feel better.  He truly spread sunshine wherever he went!
Jack was preceded in death by his sweetheart, Philomena, who we know he is having a joyful reunion with.  He was also preceded in death by his dear daughter-in-law, June Clawson, his parents, and his only sibling, his big brother Tom.
Jack is survived by his four sons and their wives, Kim (Kit), Scott (Karen), Byron (Debbie) and Mark.  He is the proud grandfather of 16, and great-grandfather of 25.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 2nd at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, Utah.  The funeral will be at 11:00 with a viewing prior from 10:00 to 10:45.  Jack will be laid to rest in the Farmington City Cemetery.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Bountiful Life Care Center, and the LDS Branch there, for their loving care and concern for Jack over the last few years of his life.
