John Robinson Lyman

November 29, 1931 — March 1, 2018

John Robinson Lyman, born November 29, 1931 in Flushing, New York, died on March 1, 2018 (prostate cancer), at home with his family. John was the second of 10 children born to Donald Gowans and Maurine Robinson Lyman.

John served an LDS mission to the New England states from 1951 to 1953, served in the US Army from 1953 to 1955, and was in the Army Reserve for 7 years after that.

John married his high school sweetheart Mary Lou Stobbe on January 12, 1951, and had 6 children–Karen Linn (Gerry) Lebing, Mary Theresa (Kent) Andra (deceased), John Michael (Lorie) Lyman (deceased), James Mathew (Vicky) Lyman, David Stobbe Lyman, and Daniel Stobbe Lyman (Rebecca Evans).  Through his 6 children, John has 20 grandchildren and 43 great grandchildren.  John's second wife was Florence Lyman.

John loved gardening, hiking, cycling, and tending campfires (like his father).  He was very passionate about his large gardens and practically fed the neighborhood with fresh produce.  He hiked the whole Wasatch Front and amazed other hikers with his abilities at his age.  He could be seen cycling on his 3-wheeler all over the Salt Lake valley.  Like Grampa Lyman, his father, he could burn a whole tree in one night's campfire.  He enjoyed life to the fullest!

A Celebration of Life for John will be held at 6:00, March 7, 2018, at the River's Bend Senior Center, 1300 West 300 North, Salt Lake City. Friends and family are welcome.
