JOHN EDGAR SORENSON 1914 ? 2010

John Edgar Sorenson, 96, joined his beloved wife Afton on August 4, 2010. He died of causes incident to age. John and Afton were married for sixty years prior to her death in 1997. John?s daughter, Carol Anne Somerville, passed away three years ago. John is survived by his son, John Leon Pat Sorenson of Farmington, Utah; daughter, Kerrie Lynne David Butler of Rolling Meadows, Illinois; and son-in-law, Charles Somerville of Lehi, Utah. His one remaining sibling is Avonell Rappleye of Orem, Utah. John had three children, 14 grandchildren, and 39 great grandchildren. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. John lived a happy life. He worked for United Airlines thirty-nine years as a research meteorologist. He received many commendations and awards for his work on clear air turbulence, which contributed to airline safety for civilian and military travel. He was an active member of the LDS Church and served in many responsible callings. Born in Gunnison, Utah, John lived in Denver, Colorado and in the Chicago area prior to retiring to Layton, Utah. He loved the mountains and loved fishing. He had many fond memories of fishing in the Rocky Mountains, the Uintah Mountains and Alaska. When his wife, Afton, passed away, he had a rose engraved on her side of the gravestone and a fly fisherman casting his line on his side of the stone. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 9 at 11:00 a.m. at the Country Creek Ward, 725 South 750 East, Layton, Utah. Friends are invited to meet the family from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the funeral services on Monday. Interment- Farmington City Cemetery. We will miss you Dad and Grandpa! In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the LDS Humanitarian fund.
