John Halldor Walton 1921 – 2011

John Halldor Walton passed away the morning of April 8th, 2011 at his home following a gradual decline in his health. He was 89.

John was born the fourth of five children to Hazen and Margaret Walton on Aug. 30 1921 in the Sugar House area of Salt Lake City.

He grew up, attended school, worked, married, lived and served the Sugar House community most of his life. Following an LDS mission to the Japanese people in Hawaii, he served in the military during WWII.

He married Ruth Hamilton in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They raised a family of seven children. Privately, he was a poet, a man whose words inspired and spoke of the important values of life to those who read his works.

Everyone who knew John loved and respected him as a dedicated servant of the Lord, devout father, hard worker, community servant, inspired teacher, and personal friend. He was preceded in death by his daughter Kathleen, 2 grand-children, a great grandchild, his brother Marvin Walton, and sister Anna Ohrn.

He is survived by his wife, daughters Mary (Paul) Bearnson, Carol (Scott) Harper and Kristin (Mark) Lambert, sons John (Candace), Paul (Janet), and James (Brenda) Walton, 26 grand-children and 4 great grand-children, sisters Fern Nichols and Lois Oakes,.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, April 16th at Ensign Ward, 135 North A Street, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call on Friday, April 15, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Salt Lake Mortuary, 255 S. 200 and also prior to the funeral service at the Ward on Saturday April 16 from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Burial will follow in the Salt Lake City Cemetery.
