John H. Wessman

John Hayward Wessman, faithful husband, father, brother, son, and friend, passed away peacefully December 22, 2004, at the age of 87. He was born May 24, 1917, to Henry R. E. and Hazel Jean Hayward Wessman in Salt Lake City, Utah, and married Beverly Lucille Glade on June 19, 1944, in the Salt Lake Temple.

He was an active member in the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings including as an ordinance worker in the Salt Lake Temple and with his beloved wife in the France, Paris mission 1985 ? 1987. His family and Church service were his top priorities.

The family enjoyed camping and spent many wonderful, memorable times together. The highlight of any family gathering was when John would play his accordion. After his retirement, John and Beverly were able to travel to many places around the world. He always found old friends and made new ones wherever he went. John worked 43 years at the Mountain Fuel Supply Company Questar Corporation and also served in the Utah National Guard, U.S. Army WWII and U.S. Army Reserve, retiring after 23 years as a Major.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly, and seven children: Ann W. Tanner James, Mesa, AZ; J. Roger Judy and Richard K. Rebecca, Salt Lake; David L. Kaye, Idaho Falls, ID; Craig J. Debbie, Mark D. Marci and Marie W. Goddard Scott, Salt Lake. He is also survived by 29 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia L. in 1957.

John is also survived by two brothers, Ernest and Keith, and two sisters, Norinne Husbands and Marilyn Pollock. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Merle Wessman, Jean Shirts and Elizabeth Punkoney, and six brothers: Henry, Richard, Paul, Philip, Gammon, and Boyd.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 28, at 11:00 a.m., in the Mountain View 2nd Ward, 1400 S. 1900 East, Salt Lake City. Friends may call at Russon Mortuary 255 S. 200 E. on Monday, December 27, from 6 ? 8 p.m. and at the ward from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m., prior to the service.
