Known for his big smile and even bigger heart, Jon Beattie Stoddard left behind a legacy of generosity, compassion, humor, and love when he returned to the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, June 22, 2016. Throughout his life, Jon's own arms were often full-first bursting with affection for his parents, Thomas Stuart and Eunice May, when he was born in Rexburg, Idaho, on August 7, 1931.
His strong arms helped him throughout an LDS mission. While serving in Argentina from 1951 to 1953, he opened several areas throughout South America. He also served in the U.S. Army's 101st Airborne Division from 1955 to 1957 and achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Jon encircled his sweetheart, Sharon Seamons, in his arms on August 12, 1955, when he married her in the Idaho Falls Temple. Together, they raised five children: Valarie Holbrook (Dave), Joi Lanez (Blaine), Jon Kurtis, Randal Royce and Jeffrey Thomas (Michelle). Their posterity continues with their 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
While he was a financial manager for many years, his second career was fueled by his love for cars; he worked as a salesman for Rand's Auto. He was also an avid collector of stamps, coins, and sports memorabilia.
Known as a gentle giant by all who loved him, Jon's full arms-and full life-are a testament to his wit, integrity, and kindness. He will be forever loved, celebrated, and missed.
The family wishes to thank Encompass Hospice for their help and support.
