Jon Travis Campbell

Jon Travis Campbell died instantly of a heart condition at his residence in Salt Lake City on February 16, 2022, closing out a mortal life that he found as full of individual challenges as the things that he personally loved.

Travis was born in Colorado on July 19, 1974 and joyfully entered the lives of Mike and Terri Campbell in Salt lake City, later moving to Centerville and St. George, UT. As a young child, he was incredibly loving and caring for those around him. Travis was very active as a child—always a step or two ahead of others. Travis served his country in the United States Navy, was owner and operator of his own small business as an adult, and he continued to develop his artistic abilities in his later life as he strived in his own way to become a slightly better person every day.

Travis had an ardent love of the Utah mountains. Travis loved skiing the Utah snow and enjoyed getting out during the summer months to enjoy the amazing mountain weather. Travis also had a deep love for good movies, delicious meals, riding his bike with his recently passed companion Lisa Geist, and found great joy in the presence of puppies, dogs, and any domesticated family pet. Travis’ unique, boisterous laughter was well-known within family circles and is still heard in our minds and hearts as he is thought of while doing the things he loved most.

In his later life Travis developed a long-dormant love for reading and writing. In fact, Travis recently finished a full-length novel, which he penned in his own distinctive cursive handwriting—something he certainly saw as an accomplishment in his later life as he proudly displayed his manuscript to friends and family.

Though his personal struggles throughout life were well-known by family and friends, Travis will certainly be remembered by those closest to him as someone who had a great deal of genuine love for those within his immediate circle. His laughter, his philosophical late-night or mid-day phone calls, his slightly crooked smiles, his intense interest in listening to you discuss your passions will certainly be remembered as personal highlights from a life many of us saw as difficult, but one that Travis saw and lived as his own.

Travis is survived by his parents, Terri Brown and Mike and Joyce Campbell, his daughter and granddaughter, Ashlie and Ellie Brown, his sisters Britany Bennett and Lindsay Foster as well as his many stepbrothers and stepsisters: Brad Brown, Greg Brown, Mike Brown, Suzanne Wallis, Amy Heaton, Bruce Holt, DeAnne Flammer, Sandra Porter, Kristen Sierra, and Heidi Mclean. Travis is preceded in death by his grandparents Hap Boardman and Maurette MacDonald as well as his stepfather, Wendell Brown. Family will gather at a later date to reminisce on his life and to lay him to rest.
