Joni Garrett Allen, 58, died November 5 at home in front of the fire, during the first snowfall of the year.
She was born August 28, 1955, to Ed and Lillian Garrett in Salt Lake City. Her lifelong mission was teaching, first as a ski instructor, then as a mother, elementary teacher, culminating with her own Lyceum School. She graduated from the U of U magna cum laude. She married Mark Allen in the Manti Temple in 1979 and loved him to the end.
Joni started several businesses, including schools, book stores, toy sales, and herbal sales. She never made any money, but she loved it. She had a zest for life-whether studying the classics or hiking the mountains. She was an angel to the less fortunate.
Joni was a lifelong member of the LDS Church, She had an ironclad testimony in Jesus Christ and the restored gospel. Joni strove to always do the right thing. She served in many callings, including Primary and Relief Society President. She touched many lives and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her family: mother, Lillian Garrett; siblings, Nancy Eynon, Brian Garrett, and Jim Garrett; husband, Mark Allen; children Scott and Rachel Allen, Joseph and ShaeLee Allen, Ian Allen and Lynsie Allen.
A viewing will be held at Russon Brothers Mortuary in Bountiful, November 7th, 6-8 p.m. Memorial Services will be November 8th, 11 a.m., at the LDS Chapel 261 East Center Street, North Salt Lake, UT.
