Joseph Austin Frodsham, 82, passed away on January 5, 2020 in the early morning. He was born April 5, 1937 in Salt Lake City, Utah, the oldest of 5 children of George Nels Madsen and Portia Austin Frodsham. At about 6 years of age, his mother died giving birth to his triplet sisters, leaving his father with 5 children to raise. He grew up in Salt Lake City, and graduated from West High School in 1957.
Joe was a very hard worker, determined to pay his own way, even as a teenager and always helped to make a significant contribution to the care of his family. In 1957 he married Doris Frickey and they had three daughters: Lisa, Elizabeth (deceased) and Cindy. They later divorced. In 1973 he married Mary Jean Cartwright and they had one son (deceased) and one daughter, Mary Suzanne (Missy) Viele.
While still in High School he began working part time at ZCMI as a stock boy. This beginning led to full time employment which lasted 46 years. He traveled extensively for the company from California to New York City and throughout Europe and the Orient.
He has served in many capacities as a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints including teacher in the Primary, Sunday School, Priesthood, and served as a counselor to two bishops and as an executive secretary.
After his retirement he served as a Temple Ordinance worker in the Bountiful Temple, and with his wife, Mary Jean, as Senior Missionaries assigned to the New York, New York North Mission from June 2003 to Dec 2004.
He is preceded in death by his parents and younger brother George. He is survived by his wife Mary Jean: daughters, Lisa (Ken) Norwick, Cindy (Dan) Davis, Missy (Dan) Viele: son-in-law, Jim Snyder: triplet sisters, Mary (Dee) Darling, Ruth (Monty) Peterson, Eve (Sharon Dale) Marsh: sister-in-law, Sharon Frodsham: 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 11, 2020 at the Mueller Park 3rd Ward, 800 East 1800 South, Bountiful, Utah. Viewings will be held at the church Friday, January 10th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:45 am prior to the service. Burial will be in the Draper City Cemetery, 12441 South 900 East, Draper, Utah.
