Following a valiant battle with early onset Alzheimer's disease, Joseph Stephen Call passed away on May 18th, 2024. Joe was born on August 29, 1951, in Spokane, Washington to Vaughn Papworth Call and Eunice Elizabeth McDonald Call. He was the fifth of thirteen children (nine living).
Joe married Carolyn Butterfield Call in the Salt Lake Temple on June 20, 1973. Together they raised a family of six children (five living), twenty-six grandchildren (twenty-four living), and seven great-grandchildren.
Joe attended Brigham Young University, graduating with a degree in accounting, and enjoyed a long career as a CPA. He worked for two national accounting firms and later opened a private accounting practice, which he operated for over twenty years. Joe was a loyal member of the Bountiful Rotary Club for many years, serving in various positions at both the local and district level.
Joe served in many capacities within the Boy Scouts of America over the years, and had a true love for the scouting program. As a youth, he earned his Eagle Scout Award. He was proud that all of his sons, his son-in-law, and many of his grandsons also earned their Eagles. Joe served as a Scoutmaster multiple times for his local unit. He also developed a scouting computer program - ScoutSoft - that tracked the progress of Boy Scouts throughout the years. In recognition of his years of service and his many accomplishments and contributions to scouting, Joe received the District Award of Merit, and also was nominated for and received the Silver Beaver Award.
Joe held many callings within the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life. In his youth, he served as a missionary in the New Zealand South Mission. In later years, he served as a Member and Leader Support missionary in the Bountiful East Stake, as well as the Rose Park Stake, with Carolyn as his companion. Joe has also served in Elders Quorum Presidencies, High Priest Group Leadership, as Stake Young Men President, and as a Bishopric Counselor.
Joe always supported his children and grandchildren in their musical and athletic pursuits. He was an avid sports fan, and spent many Saturday afternoons in Provo cheering on his beloved BYU Cougars. He was a loyal BYU football season ticket holder for over forty years.
Joe had a kind heart and a calm demeanor. He had an easy-going personality, always enjoyed a good joke, and could find humor in almost any situation. Joe was also well known for his integrity, loyalty and reliability. And his love of ketchup and of maple bars (not together) was legendary.
Joe is survived by his wife of fifty years, Carolyn Butterfield Call; his children Camille Whiting (James), Christopher Call (Brittany), Curtis Call (Lindsay), Chadwick Call (Chalice), and Casey Call (Becca); his siblings Vaughn (Kathy), Diane (John), David (Claire), Randy (Juli), Sylvia (Chris), Laura (Dave), Mark (Julie), Debbie, and Kevin (Carrie). He was preceded in death by his parents, Vaughn and Eunice Call; his siblings Mike, Julie, and Christopher; his son Cory; and grandchildren Ammon and Kija.
We would like to thank the many caregivers who have shown such loving kindness to Joe, including those at Legacy House of Bountiful, Inspiration Home Health & Hospice, and Home Instead.
