Joseph Cook

September 12, 1927 — January 22, 2019

One of the Lord’s valiant missionaries returned home to join his eternal companion. Joseph Wolcott Cook passed away peacefully January 22, 2019. Jay was born September 12, 1927 the oldest of five children to Marilla Crowther and Samuel Bryson Cook.

After serving in the United States Army he was called as a full time missionary in the Spanish American Mission where he met his eternal companion, Enid Caldwell. After their missions, they were married October 12, 1951 in the Salt Lake City Temple.

Their lives as companions were dedicated to family, education, and church service. Joseph was a teacher and principal in Rialto, California. They raised their four children and he served as Bishop three times and as a counselor in two stake presidencies.

Jay and Enid went on to serve four more missions together for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. They served in the Dominican Republic. He was then called as Mission President of the Bolivia Cochabamba Mission. He was subsequently called as a counselor in the Lima Peru Temple Presidency. His last assignment was as President of the Lima Peru MTC. They were dedicated servants and well loved by everyone that had the pleasure to work with them.

After their missions, Jay served as a sealer in the Bountiful temple. His love for the Lord was manifested in everything he did and he shared that love with his family and his friends whom he also considered family. His example and testimony have touched many lives and though he will be missed, we are grateful to know that we will see him again and we know that he is happy to be reunited with his wonderful companion.

Joseph is survived by his four children Raquel (John) Wells, Bryson (Janice), Jeffrey, and Sybil (Jeff) Ostler. He is loved by his 18 grandchildren and 29 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 am at the Oakridge Ward, 1533 North 1075 West, Farmington where friends and family may call Friday evening from 6-8 pm and 9:30-10:30 am Saturday morning prior to the services. Interment- Kaysville City Cemetery.
