Joseph Franklyn Cutler

February 11, 1930 — February 3, 2025

Joseph Franklyn Cutler, Beloved Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather passed from this life to the next one, on February 3, 2025.

Joseph was the fourth of the five children born to Ray Temple Cutler and Kate Winifred Willis. He entered the world on February 11, 1930. He passed away, one week shy of his 95th birthday. He is survived by two of his sisters, Marjorie Page (age 101), and his younger sister Sylvia Salisbury.

Joseph and Lorraine Ehninger were married in the Salt Lake Temple September 19th, 1952. Their marriage was an eternal love affair. Lorraine proceeded him in death passing on June 28, 2024. He missed her terribly. We are sure they are dancing together again and singing “Five foot two, eyes of blue!”

Daughter, Jolayne was born while Joe served in Korea, where he was made a Sergeant First Class. He was blessed not to be in any combat situations. After his return home two sons, Gregory Lynn and Calvin Ray were welcomed to the family with much joy.

Joseph served the Lord with all of his heart. He became a Missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at age 19 to the Northern California Mission. Later, Joseph was called as the first Bishop of the Bountiful 24th Ward. He served on the High Council and as a Councilor in the Stake Presidency of the Bountiful Heights Stake. He and Lorraine served together in the Singapore Mission starting in 1995 to 1997. Together Joe and Lorraine served for 13 years in the Bountiful Temple. After the Singapore Mission, he was called as the Stake Patriarch. He was knowledgeable and wise in all his callings. Loving all the people he served, he and Lorraine made many life-long friends along the way. His life revolved around the restoration of the gospel and the atonement of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Joseph was extremely active in the Boy Scouts of America. He became a Scout at age 12, and earned the Eagle Scout Award. He was a Scoutmaster at age 50, then he and Lorraine worked with the 11 year old scouts for 10 or 12 years. He earned many of Scouting's highest honors for service including the Silver Beaver Award.

Grandpa Joe or Gramps was the the best Santa Claus and Grams the best Mrs. Claus! He was funny and talented in many ways. He sang in choirs and in the 16th Notes a male quartet. He was in demand as a soloist and performed in plays. He loved traveling, and visited many places in the world with Lorraine by his side.

The best things about Gramps & Grams or the GG’s as they came to be known by the Great-grand kids is how much they loved us and wanted to be involved in our lives. They always put their family first. We had so much fun with them and we will miss them every time we play games like “Pounce” or have “Christmas Pie”. But we know for sure they will be looking on with joy at all of us. Because we were their best adventure. We will remember your testimony of the Savior Jesus Christ, and the life messages you taught us by word and deed.

Forever in our hearts, Jolayne and Merrill Flinders, Greg and Bev Cutler, Calvin Ray Cutler (who died January 30, 1976) Your eight grandchildren, their spouses and the 16 great-grandchildren felt your love, hope and prayers for each of them. To the best Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa we love you always.

The family would like to thank dear friends Tim & Michelle Morley, Ralph & Bridgette Wilcox, Clark & LeeAnn Noble, Marsha & Arlin Swain and members of the Dry Creek Ward for their love and support. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses at Lakeview Hospital and South Davis Skilled Nursing for their kind care, over the last four weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 7, 2025 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 720 E 550 N Bountiful, UT 84010, where a viewing will be held from 11:30 a.m. - 12:45 p.m. prior to services.
