Joseph (Bud) Legrand Ingles was born in Bountiful, Utah on June 15, 1939 and was received back into the arms of his Heavenly Father on December 29, 2024. He was the beloved son of Vernal Willard Ingles and Helen Josephine Graziano Ingles. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, and his sister Judy.
Bud was a kind friend to all and was always in the service of others, even at the end of his life. He left a lasting impact through his humor, his bright light, and his love for family, friends, and the countless strangers who became his friends. He greeted everyone with "I'm trying to be good"; he was more than good, he was an example of our Savior Jesus Christ whom he loved and went about doing much good.
Bud is survived and deeply missed by his loving wife, Jeanette, whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage with and their children: Sally (Legrand) VanDyke, Christine (Gary) Walker, Joette Kuhni, Michael (Jill) Ingles and Robert (Deborah) Ingles. His memory lives on with his 20 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Bud grew up with two brothers Richard and Jerry, and his one sister Judy.
Bud grew up in West Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Bountiful High School in 1957. He served a faithful and successful mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern States Mission (1959 -1961) which included parts of Pennsylvania and northern Virginia. While attending BYU Provo, he met his beautiful bride Jeanette Palmer who he married on August 18, 1962 in the Manti Temple. He graduated from BYU in 1964 with a B.S. degree in Public Administration and later graduated from the University of Missouri in 1968, also in Public Administration with a Doctorate degree.
Bud had many professions in life, and always in the service of others. He taught at the University of Maryland for seven years in Government and Politics and then returned to Utah to work at Wasatch Front Regional Council for two years and finally at the State of Utah until retirement. His roles included Staff Director for the Committee of Consumer Services and concluding his career in the Office of Recovery Services.
Bud served seven missions with his wife Jeanette: Currently serving at the Guest Services Mission at Temple Square and scanning and auditing documents at the Family Search Center. Recently served as hosts and tour directors at the Joseph Smith Building. They previously served in as officer support at the Mission-Haiti, Port au Prince; Service Mission at the Bishops’ Storehouse in Salt Lake City; Historic Site-Nebraska Omaha Mission at the Mormon Trail Center (Winter Quarters) and the Kanesville Tabernacle and service mission teaching from the “Daily Dose” program. In his spare time, he loved family history and worked endlessly on his mother’s side of the family, his mother was the first member in her family.
Bud had a love of the outdoors and family, anytime he could get all together, whether it was camping, hiking, and the annual tradition of spending time as a family at Snowbird each August. His list of hiking achievements include the Grand Canyon three times rim to rim; Havasupai hike to the waterfalls, backpacking Beckler trail in Yellowstone to Beckler Ranger Station in Idaho. Many other great experiences exploring Heart Lake, Moose Lake and Grebe Lake. While back east, their family enjoyed camping in Maryland with the beautiful campsites and the outdoor activities. He has fond memories of sightseeing and traveling all along the eastern shore visiting Williamsburg, New York-Ellis Island, Boston, Hill Cumorah pageant six times, Niagara Falls and the Vogt’s farm in Western Virginia.
His legacy and impact will carry on forever, leading us to live and choose a life of righteousness and service, to be as he would be is to live as the savior Jesus Christ would want. His family is eternally grateful to have had him as our father, husband, grandfather, friend, and minister. Now an angel in heaven, Bud returned with honor to his eternal home. We love you and miss you, forever in our hearts and one day we will see you again.
