Joseph Ashton Kjar passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2008 surrounded by his wife, children and their spouses. He died of natural causes in Bountiful, Utah at the age of 88. Joe was born to Joseph Edward Kjar & Effie Ashton Kjar, June of 1920. He married Noma Roberts. He attended the University of Utah, Columbia, and Harvard. He served an LDS church mission in the Southern states. He was an Ensign in the U.S. Navy and following the war, he returned to KSL radio as an announcer. While at KSL Joe was the National Sales Manager then promoted to General Manager in 1962. He was elected President of the Utah Broadcasters Association in 1964, and in 1972 joined Bonneville International as Executive VP, & COO. In 1973, he was elected President of the CBS Affiliates Board. After 40 years in the Broadcast Industry, he took early retirement to serve as President of the Philippines-Manila Mission. In 1992, Joe was called to be director of the Hill Cumorah Historical Sites. Other church callings dear to his heart were; Home Teacher, Sunday School Teacher, Seminary Teacher, Young Men’s General Board Member, Bishop, Stake President, Regional Representative, and Teacher Development Instructor, In 2007, he was elected to the Utah Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Joe served on the Dixie College Advisory Board, and was Centerville Citizen of the Year in 1996. Joe is survived by his eternal loving wife, Noma. Children: Dr. J. Gregory Kjar Sue, Kristin Ostrander Gregg, Scott Kjar Stana, Susi Mabey Gordon, & Kevan Kjar Anita. Siblings: Morris A. Kjar, Ted A. Kjar & Norma Dalton. 26 grandchildren & 15 great-grandchildren. And his faithful dog, Tank. Friends may visit Sunday, July 27th, from 6pm – 8pm., at the Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful. Funeral services will be Monday, July 28th, at 1pm with a viewing prior to the service from 11:30am – 12:30pm, at the Centerville Stake Center, 270 N. 300 E. Interment-Centerville Cemetery.
