Joseph Lundstrom

Biography

Joseph Leonard Lundstrom passed peacefully from this mortal life to life in the spirit world on 24 April 2014 surrounded by loving family. He had been anticipating for some time that he was needed on the other side as a missionary companion with his son James Christian and his brother Harold Clawson. Joseph was 90 years old; born 27 June 1923, in Bremerton, Washington as the second son of Emil Leonard Lundstrom and Anna Betty Clawson.
Joseph attended public schools in Long Beach and Santa Monica, California. He served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II as a radio operator and telephone linemen and saw action in the Solomon Islands (Guadalcanal), Guam, and Iwo Jima with the Third Marine Division, 21st Regiment, Headquarters Company. Following the war he graduated from Santa Monica Community College and UCLA studying History and English.
Joseph was a participating member of the LDS Church and served in various callings including as a Stake President of the Rose Park North Stake; as a temple worker in the Ogden and Bountiful Temples; and as a Stake Patriarch in the Kaysville North Stake. He was a student of the scriptures and doctrines of the church and acknowledged as an outstanding gospel doctrine teacher and church historian. He was promised in his Patriarchal Blessing that he would be a shining light and a leader among men; that he would be an influence for goodness and lead people in the ways of righteousness. He was also active in community affairs including service as president of the Kaysville Rotary Club.
He loved books and was an avid reader as well as a writer of essays, a practice he began as a twelve year old in junior high school, and something he chose to continue throughout his life. He was a published essayist, poet, author and editorialist, enjoying a career with the Deseret News, retiring in 1988. He enjoyed gardening and shared with the neighbors much of his bountiful harvests. He also became a wood working hobbyist and enjoyed making do-dads for his children and grandchildren.
Joseph married Beverley Jeanne Leitch in Santa Barbara, California. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. Joseph and Beverley have eight children, 34 grand children, and have had the enjoyment of seeing 31 great grand children; all born to goodly parents.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 68 years, Beverley Jeanne; seven of his eight children, his grandchildren and great grand children, and one brother, Richard of Ivans, Utah. His children are Sally (Dennis) Hendrickson, James (deceased), Joel (Kim) Lundstrom, David (Sharalee) Lundstrom, Jonathan (Cathy) Lundstrom, Holly (Steve) Allred, Robert (Garilyn) Lundstrom, and Laurie (Clark)Christensen.
In memorial the family is offering a viewing on Friday, May 2nd from 6 to 8 PM at Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 3 at 11 AM at the Kaysville 18th Ward, 1085 N 50 E, Kaysville, Utah, with a viewing from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the service.
