With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather, Joseph “Rock” Martinez. On December 10th 2019, Rock finally gave up after a long battle fighting heart complications and Parkinson’s Disease. The last few years of his life were extremely difficult for him, although he always maintained a positive attitude and always had a smile on his face.
Rock was the kind of guy that everyone loved to be around. His warm smile and contagious laugh could light up a room instantly.
Rock was a wonderful husband, a great father, an amazing grandfather, and a very loving uncle. Family was Rock’s first priority; he enjoyed every minute he had with his grandchildren, even up to his very last days. He enjoyed fishing, camping, barbequing, watching every kind of sport and most importantly he loved spending time with his family. Some of Rock’s most cherished memories were spent camping with his nephews; Andy, Ryan, and Tony Robbins
Rock married the love of his life, Kathy, in April 1981. They shared a beautiful life together for 38 years. Rock is survived by his loving wife Kathy, his daughter Laura (James) Patterson, daughter Nina (Jon) Street, and Marcie (Eric) Schweitzer whom was a niece that was like a daughter to him. He had 6 grandchildren: Nikoda, Ben, Kayla, Morgan Rylee, and Stetson. Rock also had 5 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved spending time with. He was preceded in death by his son Michael Martinez; parents Antonio and Lucy Martinez; and his 6 siblings.
To say we will miss him is an understatement, there are no words to express how much he will be missed. He was truly loved by all. We can only imagine the beautiful reunion that took place in heaven. We have so much faith in knowing that one day we will also be reunited with Rock and we long for that day. Till then, we will carry a piece of him in our hearts and never forget all the wonderful memories that we created with him.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, December 16, 2019, at St. Rosa of Lima Catholic Church, 210 Chapel St in Layton, Utah.
The family wishes to send a special thanks to Independence Hospice, who took wonderful, loving care of Rock.
