Joy Larene Storer Johnson

October 17, 1931 — August 29, 2021

Joy Larene Storer Johnson our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother passed away peacefully on August 29, 2021 at home in the company of her devoted and loving family.  She was born October 17, 1931 in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Willard F Storer and Jane Freelove Andrus.

Joy graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1949.  She married the love of her life, Raleigh Johnson in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on August 27, 1952.  Their honeymoon was spent driving across the country to Washington D.C. where Raleigh was stationed with the Air Force.  After completing Raleigh’s Air Force service, they lived in various places across the country before eventually settling in Kaysville.  During her life she worked for the Pentagon, a realtor, and with a physical therapist; however, her primary devotion was to her family.  When Raleigh retired, they spent their winters in St George at Temple View where they formed many friendships that they considered their second family.

Joy’s love, fondness and dedication to her husband and family were the most important thing in her life.  Her greatest joy was her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She loved each one of them equally and they all felt they were special when they were with her.  All will remember her for her cinnamon rolls, sleepovers and vacations at Lake Powell.

Joy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  Throughout the years she served in many callings in the Primary, Young Women and Relief Society.   She had a beautiful singing voice and participated in the choir.

While Joy had a passion for family, she also loved the outdoors—camping, boating, skiing and hiking.  She and Raleigh enjoyed many road trips, driving to Alaska multiple times. She was an avid golfer and participated in the women’s league in St George.  She crocheted many beautiful afghans making sure to have one ready for each new grandchild.  She was an excellent cook, especially with baking–her kitchen was always filled with wonderful aromas.  She had a gift for creating a loving and caring home.

Joy is survived by her devoted husband, Raleigh Johnson of Kaysville, Utah.  Children:  Nancy Johnson (Dave Ireland) of Louisville, Colorado, Brad (Annette) Johnson of Fruit Heights, Utah, Guy (DeeAnn) Johnson of Fruit Heights, Utah and Paula (Doug) Scott of Kaysville, Utah.  Brothers, Willard F. Storer Jr. of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Francis W. Storer of El Paso, Texas, and Marion “Dick” J. Storer of California.  Sisters, Joan Wilson of Ririe, Idaho, Colene Callahan of Shelley, Idaho, Bonnie Follett of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Cindie Beck of Pleasant Grove, Utah and Nyle Andrews of Woodville, Idaho; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son Scott; sister, Linda Reid; brother Mick Storer and granddaughter Jenna Gendreau.

A private memorial service for immediate and extended family will be held to celebrate Joy’s life and legacy.
