Joyce Adele Hageman Hoeke, beloved daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother passed away peacefully, at home, on Monday, June 8, 2015, surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 30, 1929, in Newark, New Jersey, the only child of Mabel Ann Radcliffe and Everett Markland Hageman. She graduated from Irvington High School, New Jersey, in 1947, and later earned her associate degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse from Beth Israel Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. She compassionately worked as a home health care professional for many rewarding years. Mom met the love of her life, and future husband, Harold F. Hoeke, in their junior high school homeroom. On October 29, 1950, they were married, in Irvington, New Jersey, and were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple for time and all eternity, August 1969. Together they raised four children and enjoyed sixty- four wonderful years of marriage. Mom was a gifted homemaker and made home a haven where all that entered felt accepted, loved and insulated from the sometimes harsh realities of life. She was an excellent seamstress, and her delicious pot roast and gravy were unrivaled. She was a Red Cross Certified swimmer and loved spending summer vacations at the Jersey Shore. Our priceless memories of home are filled with laughter and love. Mom worked selflessly for her family. She sacrificed her own dreams, encouraging her children to reach their full potential. Her work ethic generated immeasurable dividends in the lives of her posterity. Mom created beautiful flower and vegetable gardens and instilled in us a deep love and appreciation for Heavenly Father's creations. She was well read, well written, and loved uplifting music, all of which influenced future generations for good. She found immense pleasure in family history work, and fostered in us a love for extended family members, and a knowledge that families truly can be together forever. Most of all, she treasured spending time with her family and friends. She was a dedicated visiting teacher, as she and Dad visited their friends at Barton Creek Assisted Living Center for 10 years. She loved her children unconditionally, and gave to them the gift of optimism; allowing us to experience the sweetness and happiness life has to offer. Mom taught us, by her unfailing example, to say and do kind things. She showed us how to make and keep friends by seeing the best in others. Most importantly, Mom loved Dad with all of her heart, teaching us to reverence marriage and safeguard family loyalty. We are eternally grateful, and our lives have been so blessed because of her legacy of faith, acceptance and kindness. Mom's goodness, and love for the Savior, inspired hope and joy in the lives of so many. She will be deeply missed. Her beloved husband, Harold, preceded her in death. She is survived by her four children Kathleen Erickson (Paul), Linda Noyce (Jeffrey), Drew Hoeke (Doreen), and Elizabeth Camero (Andrew), 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. The family is extremely grateful for all of the tender care Mom received from her compassionate caregivers Kaiulani, Heidi, Tiffany, Elisa, Kimber , Kim, Melissa, and granddaughter Kathryn.
Friends and family may pay their respects at a graveside dedication, in the Bountiful City Cemetery, on Thursday, June 11, at 2:00 PM.
