Our loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to many, passed away Monday, March 19, 2018.
Judy was born to Otto Scharfschwerdt and Melida Schultz November 18, 1925, in Schneidemuhl, West Prussia, Germany. She immigrated with her family to the United States in March of 1929. They lived on Long Island, New York for twenty-one years. On September 21, 1946, Judy married her long time sweetheart Fritz C. Hohmann. They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple in October of 1946. They were blessed with three daughters: Carol, Christine and Adrienne.
Judy was an active and dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in Relief Society Presidencies, the Primary, Young Women's, and was an organist, pianist, and chorister. She helped organize the first Stake Relief Society in Taiwan.
Professionally, she worked for the telephone company for thirteen years, Beehive Clothing for ten years, Davis County library three years, and the University of Utah accounting department part time for 22 years.
Fritz, her husband for 68 years, was the love of her life. They traveled together to many countries. They spent many hours together reading, and accomplishing various tasks in their home and yard. This included making chocolate turtles for friends and family for Christmas. She also enjoyed camping and sports. As a teen, she played on an All-State Girls Basketball team in New York.
Judy loved quilting. She made over 1000 quilts for family, friends and neighbors. She belonged to several quilt groups. Quilted wall hangings were hung in various rooms of her house and decorated the halls of Country Care Assisted Living Center. She also enjoyed knitting and other crafts.
Judy was devoted to her family, always ready to help and support them. She is survived by her daughters Carol Rasmussen (Robert), Christine Briscoe (Joel), Adrienne McDaniel, eight grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren. Preceded in death by her husband, her two brothers and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Saturday, March 24 at the Bountiful 11th Ward, 115 East Wicker Lane, Bountiful, Utah, where a viewing will be held 11:30 am – 12:30 pm. prior to services.
The family would like to thank the staff of Country Care, Avalon, and Horizon Hospice for the companionship and care they gave.
