Judith Stannard

February 14, 1938 — January 8, 2014

Judith Ann Reed Stannard, our loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away January 8, 2014 from causes incident to age and her many afflictions.
Judy was a strong woman with a happy smile for anyone who came across her way. She overcame many health obstacles through the years and kept on working and serving others. She was a Volunteer at Davis Hospital and Medical Center, a job she took very seriously. She was awarded a certificate for her outstanding performance in volunteering.
Judy was born on Valentine’s Day, 1938, in Bingham, Utah, the only child of John LeRoy and Leah Bryce Reed. Her early years were spent in small mining towns in Utah, until her father was transferred to Fairbanks, Alaska. She spent her high school years at Fairbanks High, earning a letterman’s sweater for Honor Society and participating in sports and social activities.
She was accepted to the University of Utah and lived on campus where she met and eventually married Thomas A. Stannard, the love of her life. They continued to work to get his education finished and after his graduation moved to Southern California where they began their family. They had some wonderful years together and although they divorced, they remained friends for life. Judy’s final years were spent in her daughter and son-in-law’s home, where grandchildren and great-grandchildren loved to visit and participate in her care. She adored all her grandchildren and those who lived close enough were very diligent in visiting her. The family recognizes this and thanks them. The family would also like to thank Dr. Robert Taylor, Dr. Grant Christian, and the staff members who cared for her from Symbii Hospice Company.
She is survived by her children Rebecca (Paul) Rose of Fruit Heights, Utah; Matthew of La Crescent, Minnesota; 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, with two on the way.
Judy wished to be cremated and will be buried, along with Tom, next to her parents and grandparents in Springville, Utah.
