Karen Lee Jones Gurr passed away on September 8th, 2023, on her 83rd birthday. We are sure that there was a great Heavenly birthday party with her sweet husband, sister and parents.
Karen was born September 8, 1940, in Cedar City, Utah, to parents James LaNoir & Bertha Jones. Karen grew up in a small home in Cedar City, Utah, and went to Cedar City High School. Karen met her husband Don, from Parowan, Utah, when she worked as a Cashier in the Escalante Motel in Cedar City and she noticed Don, who drove tour buses, when the bus drivers would come into the motel to help check in and out the tourists as they did their tours. They courted and were married in the St. George Temple on September 9, 1960.
They moved to Logan, Utah, where Karen worked at the hospital as a secretary to the hospital administrator, while Don attended and graduated from Utah State University with an Electrical Engineering degree and worked at Hill Air Force Base. They bought a home in Bountiful, Utah, where they lived and raised their family of 4 boys.
Karen always loved to be involved with her 4 boys in all the sports they played and was always involved and supportive of their music and other activities that they participated in. She was a great team Mom for their sports and you could always hear her yelling for her sons from the stands over others that were there.
Karen served in many capacities in the church over the years; Young Women, Relief Society, and Primary. Her favorite callings were working with the young women and leading the music in the primary. Karen also served a mission with her husband Don in Utah later in her life. She was a humble follower of Jesus Christ and quietly served and ministered to many others on a daily basis with no desire for fanfare or recognition. She was always a friend to anyone she met and could always brighten their day with her smile and warm countenance and make them feel seen, valued, and loved.
Karen is preceded in death by her Husband of 61 years, Don, and is survived by her four children; Brad (Cindy), Greg (Krishna), Jeff (JoAnne), Mike (Ginger), 13 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren. She is also preceded in death by her parents James LaNoir & Bertha Jones and her sister Bonnie Smith.
