Karen McRae

May 18, 1954 — August 21, 2014

Our loving wife, mother, and gramma returned to her Father in Heaven on August 21, 2014. Karen was born May 18, 1954 to Kelvin and Lois Steadman. She grew up in Midvale with her two brothers and sister, and attended Utah State University. Karen married Mark Orson McRae in the Salt Lake Temple on February 18, 1977, after being introduced the year before by Bishop Joseph (Big Joe) Palmer, for which we are eternally grateful. She loved reading, especially church and American history. At her knee the love of literature was passed to her five children. A lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she was active in church callings. She loved working with youth in the primary and the Young Women’s program. Her smile was contagious and her laugh would light up the room. No one could give a hug warmer than her’s. She loved everyone so much, especially her grandkids. Visits by the Quad Squad thrilled her heart and Karen had unmeasurable patience and love for all the grandkids. She loved seeing the creativity of both children and adults alike. She enjoyed seeing costumes and makeup of any kind. Restricted by her earthly body in later years, her spirit and love were undaunted, flowing freely and endlessly.
Preceded in death by her father Kelvin Steadman, she is survived by her mother Lois and Richard Burningham, husband Mark McRae, and her children: David and Andrea McRae, Matthew and Natalie McRae, Krista and Michael Lieber, Andrew McRae, and Katie McRae, as well as her two brothers Kent and Karl, her sister LeAnn, and 8 grandchildren.
