Karla Winker sadly passed away in her home in the early morning hours on Saturday, February 20th surrounded by her family.
Karla was born in Gunnison, Utah on April 22nd, 1947. She was the second of four girls all born to Paul and Maurine Winkler.
Karla worked and retired from the Salt Lake City Police Department on April 16th 2009 where she worked for 13-1/2 years in their Records Division. Prior to that, Karla worked at the Industrial Commission for the State of Utah for sixteen years as well as Univac where she worked on circuit boards in their lab for ten years. She worked hard in her life providing for her children as a single parent doing everything she could for her family. She purchased a cute little house on Downingtown Avenue where she liked to play around in a small garden.
Karla had a special and sweet soul. She was kind and loving and cared about everyone around her. Karla’s favorite thing to do was to go to Wendover where she loved to play the penny slot machines. Karla was able to do that one last time before her death this last week and for that, our family is very grateful. It was if she was holding on waiting for one last jackpot. Karla loved to travel to any town that had casinos, Wendover just happened to be the closest and easiest one to get to. She enjoyed traveling to Oregon, where she stayed at the Purple Moon Inn gambling at the Chinook Winds Casino down the street. She also liked traveling to Lake Tahoe, California, Missouri, Wyoming and Arizona. She had a favorite soda and you would rarely find Karla without a Pepsi in her hand or nearby.
Karla loved her children and grandchildren with all of her heart and enjoyed any time that she could spend with them. She loved spending time with all her family and would travel with her sister and mom to many places. Karla also had some special friends in her life that she enjoyed talking to and visiting with whenever she could. Karla was an extreme cat lover and would never be without one or more of her furry little companions.
Karla leaves behind her children, Kerri (Travis) Meinburg, Christopher Wentling, her grandchildren, Vincent (Heaven) Meinburg, Chance and Valerie Meinburg and Trinity Wentling. She also leaves behind two sisters, Paula Elton Frandsen and Sharon (Mike) Miera along with nieces and nephews, Pam (Bruce) Bradley, Galen Bradley, Candace Bons, Summer (Troy) Elton, Angela and Nicholas Miera and her dear cat, Spooner.
Karla is preceded in death by her Parents, Paul and Maurine Winkler of Bountiful, her sister Arlene (George) Bradley of Salt Lake City, her longtime companion Russ Triptow of Salt Lake City, nephew Trever Elton and niece Tristan Bons. She is also preceded by her beloved cats that were part of her family over the years still talking about them often. Although we are very sad that she isn’t here on earth with us now, we are happy that she is with her loved ones that passed before her and that she is at peace. We can see her now in the arms of mom and dad, her sister, her other family members and her pets and think how wonderful that must be for all of them.
Karla’s memorial services will be held this Thursday on February 25th at 2:00 with a viewing one hour before from 12:30 to 1:30. It will be held at Russon Mortuary in Bountiful on 295 N. Main Street. Her burial will be at the Bountiful City Cemetery on 2224 S 200 W, Bountiful.
