Karma Preece Langton

Karma Preece Langton returned to her Heavenly Home on Friday, February 19th at 1:15 AM. She was born on June 25th, 1922 in Vernal, Utah, the daughter of Lella Osea McCoy Preece and Karl Banks Preece.
Karma married Gerald Penrose Langton in the Salt Lake Temple on November 26, 1947, later divorced. Jerry and Karma had eight children who were born in the various cities to which they moved: Salt Lake City, UT; Des Moines, IA; Milwaukee, WI; Oshkosh, WI; Edina, MN; Missoula, MT; Wichita, KS; and Bountiful, UT. Karma was enthusiastic about her activity in the LDS church her entire life, serving in dozens of callings. She loved music as demonstrated through the playing of the clarinet in her high school band and piano and organ playing in her home. Karma loved the music of Andre Rieu and truth be told, we think she had a secret crush on him. She also greatly loved listening to The Mormon Tabernacle Choir. She never missed a Sunday broadcast of Music and the Spoken Word. Mom especially enjoyed the classic movies of Shirley Temple for the sweet and enduring innocence of that famous little girl. She also loved watching Nelson Eddy and Jeanette McDonald movies for the endearing love affair those two had in each film. Mom encouraged her children to develop their talents in music, academics, public speaking, athletics, etc. If we did not particularly excel in them she nevertheless praised our efforts and lifted us up in the endeavor. She was exceptionally proud that 6 of her 8 children served honorable missions for The Lord across the world. As with most moms, she diligently wrote each week and sent 'care packages' constantly. They served to buoy us up and made the sometimes lonely moments more bearable.
Mom's life defined selfless service. For 9 years she cared for her adult son, our dear brother, Roger, from 1992 until his death in 2001. Roger had been afflicted with Type 1 Diabetes from his youth. Mom lovingly cared for Roger full time. For several of those years this involved Dialysis trips to the hospital three times a week. Mom would lift the wheel chair into the back of the car. Then, assist Roger into the car. This was repeated 4 times in each day's appointment.  The entire 9 years encompassed a wide variety of daily care. It was heroic given the tremendous physical work required and her age. This example, while notable, was but one of thousands of acts of kindness and loving service Mom gave to others. Mom raised us with a remarkable measure of patience, love, tough discipline and soft landings. Mom was extraordinarily devoted to her Heavenly Father. She read the scriptures every day of her life. She studiously poured over each week's Gospel Doctrine lesson.

She maintained a journal each day as well. Although understanding her entries required a Karma customized Urim and Thummim to interpret these special writings. Mom attended church nearly every Sunday unless her condition, attendant to age, prevented it.
We are especially indebted to our sister, Pam, for her devotion to Mom – not exclusively limited to, but most especially during the last 3 years. Pam, her great husband, Steve, and her entire family, invited Mom into their home for a year, providing critically needed physical, emotional and spiritual nurturing. Mom was well into the throws of Dementia at that time. It progressively became worse. The last 2 years of Mom's life was spent in the Brighton House where their staff invested in Mom, time and unselfish love. They adored Mom. Pam and her daughter, Olivia, tirelessly worked there as well. Thank you!
God Bless you, Mom. We so look forward to that day when we reunite as a family. Your life was exemplary in its example of deep love and devotion to others and to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You have given us a noble goal to strive for, that of earning a sacred place in heaven – alongside you. We love you so very much.  Goodbye for now, sweet, dear Karma.
Karma is survived by her children: Penny (Dan) Dunford; Kim (Irene) Langton; Brad (Marilyn) Langton; Gary (Ligia) Langton; Todd Langton; Barbi (Marty) Cooper; and Pam (Steve) Wright.  Her sister, Ruth Gille; brother Bruce (Nancy) Preece; 30 Grand Children; 69 Great, Grand Children; 2 Great, Great, Grand Children and many loving nieces and nephews. Karma was preceded in death by her parents, Lella and Karl Preece; brothers McCoy Preece, Chuck Preece and Reed Preece; son, Roger Langton.
Karma Langton's Viewing will be held at Russon Brothers, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. Viewing time will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm Tuesday evening, February 23, 2016. Her Funeral Service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ, Brookwood Ward, 1900 West 11970 South, Riverton, Utah, beginning at 11:00 am Wednesday, February 24, 2016. A Viewing will be held prior to the Funeral beginning at 10:00 am.
