Our mom, our Nana, our sister, and dear wife, Karolee Burningham, passed away peacefully at 79 on June 8th, 2024. Surrounded by the love of family for her final weeks, she left this world with the same fire she embodied throughout her life.
Born March 18th, 1945, in Brooklyn, New York, Karolee was the apple of her parents' eyes, Bill and Normalee Evans. From her dad, she inherited an unflappable strength, and from her mom, a somewhat more energetic manner and a love for expressing affection in unique ways – a legacy she'd carry forward throughout life. Utah became her home at a young age and where she grew up with two sisters and a brother, their laughter and companionship echoing through the years to now.
Bountiful High School not only saw Karolee through academically, but it also played a most key role in her life. There, during her senior year, she met Paul, who had graduated a year earlier. Theirs was a love story spoken in dreams, and on September 8th, 1966, they were married. As they say, the rest is history, etched in their 58 years together. We know, with smiles in our hearts, that she stubbornly extended her time here a little longer only to spend more time with him.
But life, as for all, wasn't always sunshine and cool breezes. Karolee's life, though marked by enduring love for Paul and family, also faced challenges that tested her emotional well-being. Yet, she persevered – a testament to her unwavering spirit. Even when words or patience may have fallen short, the love in her heart for her family never flickered. Her energetic resilience is a beacon for all who knew her.
Karolee's passions were as vibrant as her personality. From carving slopes on skis to leaving everyone in the dust while cycling, she embraced life with gusto. Her love for baking brought the sweet aroma of her chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin bread, while her decorating talent transformed ordinary spaces into her own idea of heaven. Whether it was shopping for the perfect outfit or sipping on a Diet Coke with extra ice (a constant companion!), she found joy in a great many of this earth’s offerings.
Above all, Karolee was a devoted Nana. Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart, and the memories they built together will forever be cherished. She leaves behind a loving husband, Paul Edward Burningham, children Adam (Deidre), Heather Paxman (Kevin), and RyanDavid (Emily), and a treasured cadre of grandchildren who will miss her dearly. Her legacy also lives on in her two sisters and a brother and their families. She is preceded in death by her son Tyler, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms on the other side.
While knowledge of the eternal plan brings some comfort, the sting of loss remains. Karolee's kind touch, her bright blue eyes that sparkled with warmth, and her unwavering support will be deeply missed. She was our champion, our cheerleader, always believing in our potential. Her tenacity, the very fire that fueled her passions here on earth, will undoubtedly propel her forward in the eternities.
