Kathryn Spindler Newton

December 26, 1923 — June 28, 2016

Kathryn Spindler Newton passed away on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, surrounded by her daughters, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren at the age of 92.

Kathryn Spindler Newton was born on December 26, 1923, in Brigham City, Utah to Nina Christina Nelson, and Thornton Fred Spindler.  Kathryn married Fred Shaw Newton in 1946 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had three daughters Patrice Nina Kanell, Ann Kathryn Toole, and Elizabeth Jane Beck.

Kathryn had a love of family, travel, laughter, religion, education, and diamonds. She was a feisty, headstrong, honest, and devoted mother and grandmother.  Kathryn was left a young widow and raised three daughters on her own with grace, determination, and laughter. Kathryn adored her children and grandchildren! She made delicious grilled cheese sandwiches and pancakes; climbed trees, built forts, collected rocks, grew amazing tomatoes and sewed beautifully. She instilled in her family a love for each other, the importance of hard work, the ability to laugh and find joy, and a love for our Heavenly Father.

Kathryn is survived by her three daughters, ten grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by her husband Fred; and her brother Fred (Bud) Spindler.

Kathryn will be buried at a graveside service on July 2, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 North “N” Street. A viewing will take place Saturday, July 2 from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah.
