Kathy Healey Mortensen

December 7, 1943 — March 7, 2018

Kathleen Healey Mortensen, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed into eternity surrounded by her family on Wednesday, March 7th, after a heroic journey with breast cancer. Born December 7, 1943, in Salt Lake City, Utah, Kathy was the fourth of four children born to Emmett and Maurine Healey. She married L. Del Mortensen on May 10, 1963, in the Logan, Utah, Temple and they began a love story that has lasted 55 years and will continue on into eternity.

Mom’s greatest desire in life was to be a mother and she threw her whole heart and soul into raising five sons with much sacrifice, hard work, and love. She embraced the role of grandmother and constantly sought creative ways to make each grandchild feel special. Family was everything to Mom. Perhaps her greatest legacy will be the beautiful family culture she created that will continue to nourish the next generation for years to come. She had a passion for family history and especially loved living in the ancestral home of her parents in Alpine for a season. Mom loved her sisters and enjoyed frequent gatherings with them and their families. Living in the same home in Bountiful for over 40 years, she treasured the rich and satisfying friendships she formed with neighbors and members of her 41st ward family.

Mom was a kind and meek woman who never felt comfortable being the center of attention. She worked tirelessly behind the scenes to selflessly meet the needs of others. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and showed her love for the Lord through years of church service and humanitarian projects.

Mom was the world’s greatest note taker, list maker, and keeper of memories. She perfected the art of the fruit plate. She loved to take evening walks holding hands with her husband under the light of her beloved moon.

Kathy is survived by her husband, L. Del Mortensen; five sons: Brad (Bonnie), Dan, Dave (Molly), Craig (Jennifer), and Ben (Kate); nine grandchildren; two sisters: Betty Harris and Janet Erickson. She is now enjoying a joyous reunion with her parents and sister (Donna) who preceded her in death. Services will be held Friday, March 16th, at 11am at the LDS chapel on 165 South 1000 East in Bountiful. Friends and family may call at the chapel from 9:30-10:45am the day of the services. Interment, Bountiful City Cemetery, under the direction of Russon Mortuary. We express our love and appreciation to everyone who worked with Mom at the Huntsman Cancer Center and Tender Care Hospice (especially Andrea and Susan) for their devoted care. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the LDS Humanitarian Fund.

Mom, Grandma, Sister and Friend, you will continue to be a powerful presence in our lives, though unseen, a guardian angel–steadfast, loving and serene. We love you! For your sweet love remembered, we will always be grateful.
