Kathy Ann Johnson Oleson was born in North Wilkesboro, NC in the winter of 1952. Growing up on a homestead in the Appalachian foothills imbued her with a love of gardening, cardinals, and fresh mountain air. As she grew older, she developed a sense of exploration, service, and learning that led her to UNC Chapel Hill, where she graduated with a degree in nursing and met the man who would become her husband, Willard Paul Oleson. After graduation, they moved west to Utah and were married. Kathy was strongly devoted to family and career. She worked full-time while raising a family and earning additional Master’s degrees that furthered her career in nursing administration. Although she made her new home and career out West in Utah, Kathy never forgot where she came from and stayed very close to her family in North Carolina and visited them as much as she was able. Those who knew Kathy can attest to her quiet fortitude and love of service. Gift giving and holidays were her joy, and a house full of grandkids her happy place. She gave freely of herself and her humble, earthly crafts. Kathy was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ throughout her entire life. She was the perfect example of unconditional love and exemplified many Christ-like qualities. Kathy could make anyone feel loved and she carried the light of Christ with her always. She was steadfast and served in every aspect of her life. Her altruistic qualities truly defined her, and she was an anchor to her family and those that knew her. Kathy had a love for traveling the world and took her family on vacation every year and spent as much time on the beach as she could. Kathy leaves behind a loving husband—Paul; three children—Jon, Nate, Katherine and her son in law Jason; and five grandchildren—Brooks, Everett, James, Sunna, and Bjorn. Though her physical absence will be strongly felt, her strength of spirit, endurance, humility, tranquility, and love of God and family lives on in those who remain behind.
