Kay Sylvia Strong McKinley passed from this life on March 23, 2024. She was born on May 1, 1943 to William Francis and Sylvia Marie Steward Strong in Salt Lake City, Utah. She married James Erwin McKinley on September 9, 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple, and together they raised two sons, Todd James and Troy Jon.
Kay worked at Christensen Mining Products for 30+ years. She was an expert at cross stitch, loved to travel, and she loved her family.
After the death of her husband in 1997, she enjoyed the companionship of David Harris. For twenty two years the two of them traveled the world together, which she enjoyed so much. Last year she moved from California back to Utah to be closer to her family, but suffered from the effects of dementia, which progressed rapidly. We are so grateful for the loving care she received for the last three months of her life at Legacy House in Bountiful, Utah, and for all of the sweet employees and residents that she got to know there.
She is survived by her sons, Todd (Michelle) and Troy (Bree), five grandchildren: Andrew, Maria, Emily, Mercedes and Tage, her brother Gregg Strong (Bobbie) of Colorado, and her dear companion, David Harris of Wilton, California. She also leaves behind David’s family, including Damon and Christie Harris and sons Christian, Brandon, and Ryan, and Samantha and Reine Persson and son Keegan and daughter Kennedy.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband Jim McKinley, her sister Sandra (Everett) Peabody, and her grandson Joseph McKinley.
A viewing will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Russon Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. She will be buried at the Bountiful City Cemetery.
