Kelsi Shawn Craven

On April 30th, 2015, while surrounded by her loving family, Kelsi Shawn Craven, age 25, unexpectedly left this frail existence due to complications from a recent car accident combined with the cruel effects of muscular dystrophy, and RAN into the loving arms of her Heavenly Father, Grandpa Calder, and Grandma Craven.
 
From the day Kelsi was born, she battled countless serious health problems with grace, dignity, and courage.  She had a strong will to LIVE and NEVER let her disability stop her! Kelsi was an inspiration and example to everyone who knew her.
 
Kelsi accomplished so many things in her short life.  Her greatest accomplishments were the following; Earned her Young Woman Recognition Award, Graduated from Seminary, Graduated from Davis High School with honors, Lived independently away from home for six years while attending Utah State University.  Her junior year she was nominated as Female Student of the Year.  She served on the student council representing the Disability Resource Center, advocating for much needed campus changes and improvements for people with disabilities.  Kelsi was selected as first runner up to Miss Wheelchair Utah 2014-2015.  Graduated one year ago "cum laude" from her beloved Utah State University with a bachelors of Science degree in social work.  Was attending BYU working on her Master's of Social Work, until finding it medically necessary to withdraw.
 
Kelsi was fun- loving and spunky.  She always insisted on looking perfect in every way when out in public.  She was a shopper, a "fashionista," a dedicated student, a baker, a party girl, make-up and nail artist, food lover, biggest fan of the New England Patriots, and had recently returned to her love and talent of painting.
 
Kelsi loved to travel even though it was difficult for her.  As a family we visited Florida on her "Make-A-Wish trip, along with Hawaii, Alaska, and California.  She loved her years as a MDA "camper" and cherished each and every one of the dear lifelong friends she met there.  Her greatest love in life was for her family and many friends, along with education, and her faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  
 
Although our hearts are broken, we know she is "free" from her little mortal body that couldn't keep up with her big spirit.  We find comfort knowing we WILL see her again.  She is now, clad with angel wings, rather than her goal of an L.C.S.W. title, going to "work" continuing her divine mission of loving, serving, listening, "counseling," and being a true friend to ALL, and changing lives for the better!
 
Kelsi and her family would like to thank Dr. Lisa Samson-Fang, Dr. Lynn Kerr, Dr. Stephen Santora, and Dr. Kathleen Pfeffer for their tender care throughout her lifetime.  Also a special thanks to the Disability Resource Center at USU for helping to make Kelsi's dreams a reality.
 
Kelsi is survived by her parents, Shawn and Colleen Craven, siblings, Maquelle Craven, Elder Calder Craven, serving in the California, Redlands Spanish speaking mission, and Kaden Craven, along with her Grandmother, Leah Calder, Grandfather, Frank H. Craven, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at the Compton Bench Chapel, 850 North 300 West, Farmington, Utah.  Family and friends may call Monday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 North Main St. and Tuesday morning from 9:30 – 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to services.  Interment – Farmington City Cemetery.
