Kenneth George Fowler

August 31, 1942 — February 12, 2025

Kaysville, Utah

Ken Fowler, beloved father, papa, uncle, coach and friend passed away on February 12, 2025, at the age of 82. Ken was the fifth of five children born to Kenneth and Grace Fowler on August 31, 1942. His siblings were Keith, Kirk, Kay, and Karoline.

Ken was raised in a little town in upstate New York called Elmira. He shared fond memories of his childhood, spending time with family, having sleepovers with cousins, and day trips to Enfield Glen. He always loved sports. In his youth he enjoyed playing football, tennis, and basketball at Horseheads High School. He continued playing tennis into his adulthood, playing with a group of men during the winters at Lagoon’s indoor tennis courts.

Although not very typical of a sports enthusiast, he also really enjoyed the theatre. He had a strong tenor voice with a soft vibrato, loved music and acting and cherished the time he was able to spend performing. In college, he also had the opportunity to travel with the Young Ambassadors. He was cast as many characters in plays and musicals during his long tenure of performing from his youth all the way into his 70’s. Some favorites included the Cowardly Lion in “The Wizard of Oz,” Crazy Old Maurice in “Beauty and the Beast,” Jacob in “Joseph and the Technicolored Dream Coat,” and Teddy Brewster in “Arsenic and Old Lace,” where he really stole the show. He said the highlight of his career as a thespian was being a part of the “Savior of the World” production, where he spent several months practicing and performing with what he said was amazing talent.

In 1962, he was called by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to serve a two-and-a-half-year mission in Germany. For the last few months of his mission, fate sent him back to the U.S. to serve the remainder in Ohio, where he met a young blonde girl, who later became his wife. He returned after the mission to Ohio to work for his future father-in-law and to court DeAnn. Shortly after she graduated high school they were married. Ken and DeAnn have five children (Matthew, Michelle, Michael, Jeffrey, and Brittany), eighteen grandchildren and one great grandchild. Ken loved his family very much and spent loads of time supporting, coaching, and watching his children and grandchildren. He helped develop a passion for sports, whether watching or participating. He coached youth football, where he claimed several mini-bowl championships.

Ken worked for Dayton Tire Company and jumped at the opportunity to relocate to Utah. The company was purchased shortly after being relocated and he was laid off. He returned to BYU with DeAnn where he finished his college education, obtaining a Master’s degree in Psychology. He was then hired by The Corporation of the Church of Jesus Christ, where he spent a 28 year career in their welfare services program.

Ken was a lover. He was a happy person that sincerely enjoyed the company of loved ones. You’d have a hard time escaping a family get together without a hug from papa. His talents went beyond singing and sports. He had a special talent of falling asleep on the floor with his head suspended in the air. It was truly inspiring to witness. He had a handful of “Dad jokes” that got repeated to each new set of ears… and many times to the same set of ears. He also enjoyed

the company and unconditional love from his dogs over the years. He made others feel special and loved. He was genuinely interested in people and was more than willing to talk to them.

Ken was loved by all and will be truly missed. Please join us in celebrating his life.
