Kenneth ("Ken") Eugene Garner

March 7, 1935 — October 19, 2015

Ken passed away early in the morning on October 19, 2015.  He was the son of Edwin Tolman Garner and Rebecca Magdalene Carlsen Garner, born March 7, 1935 in Salt Lake City, Utah.  Ken attended Murray High School (1949-1953), graduating from Ben Lomond High School on June 3, 1954 in Ogden, Utah.  He served on Ogden City Police Reserves (1954-1957).  Ken worked at Ogden Standard Examiner as a Stereotyper (1954-1957).Then as a stereotyper and pressman for Salt Lake Tribune mainly night shift at the Newspaper Agency Corporation (NAC) for 41+ years.

Ken was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, having served in the Young Men’s organization while living in Ogden.  He loved watching and listening to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir.

Ken’s motto was “if one is good, two or three is better” of anything; he needed to be prepared.  He enjoyed photography, history, watching television with family, and listening to music.  He enjoyed his beautiful lawn, gardening, and walking around Bountiful and Centerville.  He loved our Savior Jesus Christ and after suffering with various health issues, longed to be in the Savior’s embrace.

 

Ken married Alice Faye Ogden in Logan Utah LDS Temple on September 11, 1957, later divorced.  They are parents of Mary Ann and Richard Wayne Garner.  Ken married Janice Ann Smith Humphreys in Bountiful, Utah on January 21, 1968, later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.  Ken adopted Audrey Yvonne Humphreys Garner.  Ken and Janice are parents of David Lynn and John William Garner.  Ken had a deep personal and quiet love for all his posterity and family.

 Ken is survived by wife Janice of Bountiful ; brothers James A.(Karen) Garner of Bountiful , Ronald E. Garner of Ogden; half-brother R. Dale (Teresa) Gardner of Blanding; half-sister Charlene Garner (Kent) Coleman of North Ogden;  children Mary Ann (Jeff) Hershkowitz of Ivins, UT; Richard (Martha) Garner of Monticello, UT; Audrey (G. Kay) Jessen of Woodruff, UT; David (Kerisue) Garner of St. George, UT; John (Chandra) Garner of Bountiful, Utah; former daughter in-law Laura Kay Garner (Curtis) Jones of Bountiful.  Ken is survived by 23 grand children, 11 great-grandchildren and one due in November.  Ken is survived by mother-in-law Josephine Ma Rea J. Smith of Smithfield, UT; sisters-in-law JoMarie S. (Steven) Poppelton of Chubbuck, ID; Beth S. (Doyle) Serr of Chubbuck, ID; Marilyn S. Thomson of Smithfield, UT; Melody S. Pendleton (Ken) Dicken of Mapleton, UT; and brother-in-law Clair J. (Christina) Smith of Hyrum, UT.  Ken is survived by many relatives and friends.  

Ken was preceded in death by parents, ex-wife Alice Faye Rogers, sister Shirley Yvonne Garner Gifford and her husband Frank of LaVerkin, UT; all aunts and uncles; father-in-law John Sivell Smith of Smithfield, UT; sister-in-law Ann Marie C. Smith of Smithfield, UT; brother-in-law Dean L. Pendleton of Mapleton, UT; great-granddaughter Lydia Aldabella Jessen.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Friday, October 23, 2015, at Bountiful Stone Creek Stake Center, 990 N. 100 W, Bountiful, Utah.  Friends and family may visit Thursday, between 6 and 8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 N. Main, Bountiful, Utah, and on Friday 10:45 to 11:45 p.m. at the church.  Interment will be at the Lakeview Memorial Estates Cemetery, 1640 E. Lakeview Drive, Bountiful.
