Kenneth Lee Shaw, 73, passed away surrounded by his loving family on November 16, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, August 23, 1943, the son of Joe and Gwendolyn Shaw, eldest of eight children. Ken graduated from Bountiful High School and attended Weber State College and Brigham Young University. In 1962 he served an honorable full-time mission in the Southwest Indian Mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He married his sweetheart Vivian Heath McShinsky on August 20, 1965 in the Salt Lake Temple. Ken served in the United States Navy Mobile Construction Battalion, including two tours to Vietnam.
Following his military service he worked in construction. For eight years he was employed at the Joseph Smith birthplace in Sharon, Vermont. Returning to Utah, he worked for thirty years in the Engineering Department at Primary Children's Medical Center as a maintenance carpenter. Upon retirement, he and Vivian were called to serve a full-time service mission with the Farmland Reserve, laboring in California and Montana for twenty-six months. Over his life-time he served faithfully in many stake and ward callings.
His passions included building and remodeling homes, woodworking, gardening, reading, and traveling. Ken has a deep, abiding love for the Savior which was reflected in his patience, kindness, and service to everyone throughout his life.
He is survived by Vivian, his wife of fifty-one years, his daughters Kendra Fowler and Sabrina Bradshaw (James), his son's Jason Shaw (Rosa) and Corey Shaw (Sarah), and fifteen grandchildren who he adored. He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter, Annie Eliza Shaw.
Viewing services will be held Sunday, November 20, 2016 from 6-8 PM at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful, Utah. Funeral services will be held Monday, November 21, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Bountiful 45 Ward chapel, 115 East Wicker Lane (2000 South), with a viewing before the services from 9:45-10:45 AM. Interment will be at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park, 17111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah.
