Kenneth Mackay Miller

February 24, 1941 — May 21, 2016

Ken will be remembered as a kind, gentle man who wore his heart on his sleeve.  His kindness was unparalleled; his sense of humor boarded on the corny and he never met a pun he didn’t like.  Ken passed away at home due to idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.  He was a son of Irvine Bagley Miller and Elizabeth Mackay.  Ken graduated from Bountiful High School in 1959 where he made lifelong friends and was a popular student and athlete.  Ken served a faithful LDS mission to the Brazil South Mission.  He married Barbara Lynne Hatch in the Salt Lake Temple in 1964 and they had 3 sons, Matthew (Leslie), Nathan (Dana), and Andrew.  He graduated from the University of Utah and spent his career as a CPA.  He had an incredibly strong work ethic- he never had fewer than three jobs at a time and was working full time up unto the day before his death.  He especially loved his jobs working with charitable organizations such as the March of Dimes and Special Olympics.

Ken was an honored member of the U.S. Army Reserve and served in Operation Desert Storm.  Ken never met a stranger-everyone was his friend and he couldn’t go anywhere quickly because he had to stop and visit with friends.  Ken received the Silver Beaver award because of his dedication to the Boy Scouts of America, serving as Scoutmaster, merit badge counselor, and Chairman and member of the local scout committee where he helped more than 100 boys reach their Eagle rank.  His favorite callings in the LDS Church were when he was serving those who needed it most, particularly as the President of the Special Needs Mutual and as a member of the South Davis Community Hospital branch presidency.

Ken is survived by his wife Barbara, 3 children, 4 beloved grandchildren, sister, Lorena Bingham and brothers Brent and Norm.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 26, 2016 at the Porter Lane 2nd Ward, 435 West 400 South, Centerville, Utah.  Friends and family may visit Wednesday, May 26 from 6-8 p.m. at Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main, Bountiful or Thursday, 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the services.
