Kenneth Reed Brown

January 19, 1947 — November 29, 2024

Kaysville, Utah

Kenneth Reed Brown, age 77, returned to his Heavenly Father on November 29, 2024 in Kaysville, Utah after a 22-year battle with leukemia. His last moments were spent surrounded by his family, just as he chose to spend his entire life.

Ken was born on January 19, 1947 in Coalville, Utah, to Reed and Thelma Brown. He was the third of four children; LaRae, Karma, and Blaine. He was raised on a dairy farm helping with the family business, Brown’s Summit Valley Milk. He was a graduate of North Summit High School in Coalville. He played basketball and ran track for the high school team. After graduating from high school, he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the North Central States mission.

After returning from his mission, he graduated from BYU where he met and married his sweetheart, Sydna Kaye Robison, on June 1, 1973 in the Salt Lake Temple and was married for more than 51 years. He continued his education graduating from BYU J. Reuben Clark Law School in 1977. He balanced the pressures of law school and early family life with love, never losing his sense of humor along the way. He was a present father, valuing time with his family above all. He loved spending time with friends and family and was always the life of the party. He had an easy way about him and will be remembered for his quick wit and warm, contagious laugh.

He practiced criminal defense law for 40 years, and was passionate about fair representation for all. The highlight of his law career was opening the law firm Brown, Bradshaw and Moffat in 1998 where he practiced until he retired in 2014.

After retiring from law, Ken found joy in raising beef cattle, a passion he carried with him until his passing. He loved working alongside his children and grandchildren on the farm, sharing stories, laughter, and lessons about hard work and the importance of family.

Ken was a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in numerous callings throughout his life, including as a counselor in the bishopric, gospel doctrine teacher, and in various roles with the young men. His faith was central to his life and he found joy in serving others.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister. He is survived by his wife, Sydna, his six children: Burke (Melissa) Brown; Brittnie (Travis) Sautter; Spencer (Islay) Brown; Jordan (Angie) Brown; Taylor (Tessa) Brown and Riley Brown; 16 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
