Kevin Bates

Our beloved Kevin Andrew Bates died peacefully in his home surrounded by loved ones, December 1, 2012, after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Salt Lake City, on October 13, 1961, to L. Gordon Bates and Hildegard Duessler Bates. Kevin graduated from Davis High School in 1980, and was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints to the Taiwan, Taipei Mission. After honorably completing his mission he attended BYU graduating with a B.S. in 1987. Kevin married Lisa Vaughan in the Salt Lake Temple, November 17, 1994. He worked as a computer programming engineer for many years, until serious health concerns forced him to become a private contractor. From that time forward he worked from his home where he devoted his extra time to the finer things of life; his wife, his two young daughters, his church callings and his garden. His deepest joy was found in being an influence for good in the lives of family, friends and acquaintances. He loved his homeland and its freedoms. He maintained a deep abiding love for the principles of righteousness. He bore with cheerfulness and without complaint the health challenges he endured most of his life as he quietly spread his gentle yet powerful influence into the hearts of many. If you knew him well, you understood why he was loved by so many. He had attained a level of perfection in realizing life’s greatest challenge; to become truly charitable. He suffered long, was kind, envied not, was meek and thought little of his own achievements. He believed, he hoped, and he endured. His greatest desire was to leave a legacy of faith and trust in the Savior, Jesus Christ. He remained faithful to the end and magnified all of his church callings. His beloved wife Lisa, and his two young, adoring daughters, Rachel and Emily are the best witnesses to his achievement of unfailing faith. He completed his earthly mission faithfully and with exemplary honor and courage.
Kevin was preceded in death by his older sister Monika (Michael) Carter, and his Mother, Hildegard. Kevin is survived by his wife, Lisa Vaughan, his two daughters, Rachel, and Emily, his father Gordon (Arletta) Bates, his sisters Barbara (Sherm) Olmstead, and Holly (Douglas) Cobabe, and his brother Brian (Yolanda) Bates.
Friends may call Friday, December 7, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 1941 North Main, Farmington. Funeral services will be held at the Farmington South Stake Center (695 S. 200 E.) on Saturday, December 8, at 12 noon with a viewing from 10:45 to 11:45 prior.
Interment will be in the Farmington Cemetery.
