Kit Thompson Greenwell

October 20, 1941 — December 5, 2016

Kit Thompson Greenwell wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend returned home to the love of our Heavenly Father on December 5, 2016. Kit was born October 20, 1941 to Norman and Wanda Knight Thompson. She was raised in Warren, Utah and attended Weber County schools.

As a young child Kit had a love for life and loved to have fun. She was always a good friend and kind to those around her.

Kit was a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ always serving and caring for others. She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and loved serving in many capacities of the church and the community.

At 16, Kit met the love of her life, Ronald L. Greenwell. They were sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 4, 1959. They raised 6 children, and due to unique circumstances, an adopted daughter from Germany that came to attend school. Kit’s family was most important to her.  She spent countless hours serving and strengthening her family. She was a loving mother and taught all of her children how to keep a clean house and how to care for the laundry and yard as well.  She kept an immaculate house and still cared for those around her.  Kit was a wonderful organizer and entrepreneur. She loved her family and worked hard to keep people together, teach them unselfish love for each other and those around them. She loved supporting all her children in their different activities.

Kit knew the value of hard work and was such an example of enduring all things to the end and doing it with a smile. She said many times, "You have to fake it till you make it.” So much of the last few years have been just that. Some of her favorite words she left with us are, “Make it a great day,” “Zip-a-dee-doo-dah,” “Last time I wore it I put it away,” It’s a pretty thin pancake”, and “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all.”

Kit brought joy, love, and confidence to all. Everyone that knew her loved her and looked up to her for guidance and leadership.

In 1970, Kit opened the Wishing Well Pre-school, a preschool which was based on self-esteem for children and taught many preschoolers how to be their own person with great self-confidence. Many of her students grew and returned to enroll their children over a 40-year period. This was a great honor and achievement for Kit. She owned and operated her own sales agency serving the flooring industry for 25 years representing several manufactures and servicing hundreds of dealers.

Kit is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ronald Lance Greenwell and their six children (Neil) and Kathy Cox, (Mark) and Lauri Pickett, Dale and (Karen) Greenwell, Jeff and (Sunny) Greenwell, Ross Greenwell, (Jeff) and Nanci Oldroyd, 14 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her 4 sisters Kay Thompson Swan, Ann Thompson Parrish, Sue Thompson Hull, and Jil Thompson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Norm and Wanda Thompson.
