In memory of our fearless girl, who never could be broken. No matter how many times life tried.
Kristin Greenhalgh Brush was taken to her heavenly home on Friday evening, May 6, 2022. She left peacefully, surrounded by her loving family in her parents’ home in Farmington, Utah.
When Kristin was 17, she was involved in a tragic car accident that injured her head and shattered her arm and put her in the hospital for nearly a year. She got up again. She relearned everything. How to blink. How to swallow. How to not spit food across the table when her father made her laugh. She wore a trach scar across the base of her throat like a soldier wears a medal showing that she, too, knows how to fight. And was brave.
Kristin relearned how to walk (oh, how we loved her walk). Her right arm grew strong because her left arm wouldn’t bend. She had a grip like a vice and could pull a loaded casserole dish out of the oven with just one hand. We’ll miss the squeeze of her hand.
She went to school, graduated from college, served a mission, she fell in love, got married, raised beautiful stepsons, and then survived a broken heart when they divorced.
Two years later, the pain in her chest turned into cancer. She cut it out, shot chemicals in her veins, lost her hair, lost her breasts, and she beat it. She went back to work caring for elderly friends in the Barton Creek Care Center, where she loved to work for six years. She played bingo with her friends and made them laugh. It was her dream job.
Kristin loved God and served in the temple. She enjoyed water aerobics and cooking and living with her mom and dad. She collected cute clothes and cute canes that steadied her when life tried to throw her off balance.
At age 46, the cancer came back. In her bones. It broke her spine. Doctors gave her just 6 months to a year to live. She had them shoot concrete into three vertebrae and she went on living. She never stopped fighting. She made it to age 47 (one month short of 48). She died almost exactly 30 years after the tragic accident that nearly killed her.
Kristin Greenhalgh Brush was born June 12, 1974 to Dennis and Susan Greenhalgh in Bountiful, Utah. She is survived by her parents and four siblings: Chadwick Greenhalgh (Alysa) in Farmington, Utah; Camille Marx (Craig) in Farmington, Utah; Rebecca Nielsen (Gene) in Bountiful, Utah; and Kyle Greenhalgh (Coral) in Ukiah, California. Kristin is also survived by her grandma Joyce Greenhalgh in Draper, Utah and her stepsons, Justin Brush (Mikayla) in Layton, Utah and Tyler Brush (Morgan) in Clearfield, Utah.
Kristin didn’t want a viewing because she wouldn’t look “cute.” A memorial service will be held at the Farmington Rock Chapel at 272 North Main Street, Farmington, Utah on Friday, May 13 at 11:00 am. Family and friends are welcome to come hug her family before the service starting at 9:30 am. She will be interred at the Farmington City Cemetery following the memorial service.
The family would like to thank all of Kristin’s sweet friends who loved her and lifted her up throughout her life, but especially these final months. We are grateful for the loving care of hospice nurses and doctors. We are grateful for the hopeful words promised by John the apostle at the end of the New Testament: “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. And he that sat upon the throne said, Behold, I make all things new.” (Revelation 21:4-5)
