Surrounded by friends and family Kurt James Hawks passed away peacefully in his home November 11, 2016. He entered the world on October 28, 1968, in Logan, Utah. Born to J.D. and Nan Hawks, he was the second child and only son of 6 children. The family moved to Rexburg, Idaho in 1970, where the children grew up. His sisters include Shandi (Mitch) Hughes, Trisha (Chris) Chatterton, Natalie (Misty) Hawks-Potochnik, Brittney (Rod) Ceasar and Melissa (Nate) Hartsock. He graduated from Madison High School in 1987 and served an LDS Mission in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Upon returning home he attended Ricks College where he met his future wife Paula Nye. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on August 9, 1991. Sadly they had to leave Idaho in 1995 for employment but have lived happily for the past 20 years in Kaysville, Utah. At various intervals came five children: Conner (Whitney), Aspen, Sadie, Dillon and Tucker.
Kurt was adventurous in all aspects of his life. He was an avid fly fisherman, snowmobiler, and at home mechanic. The family enjoyed skiing, hiking, mountain drives, and late night shenanigans. Kurt was Co-Owner of Sky Satellite, a DirecTV business that let him travel often. One of the things Kurt did best was always make life more fun no matter the situation. He loved deeply and did so without reserve.
In March of this year Kurt was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. He valiantly fought for his life with faith and without complaint. The family motto for his fight was ‘Have Faith and Be Mighty’ (1 Ne 1:20). Kurt and family have been overwhelmed with love and support from family, friends and neighbors. Kurt, we love and miss you dearly and we know we will see you again.
