L. Wendall Hand

May 30, 1928 — March 31, 2016

After a brief ten day separation, Lorus Wendall Hand was reunited with his eternal sweetheart LaJuana of 40 years.  Wendall was born in SLC, the son of Lorus Taylor and Ruby Cole Hand.  He grew up in New York City.  He attended the University of Utah.  He served in the Army during the Korean War.  He married Edith Toussaint, and had two children: Lois (Randy) Palmer, and Stephen (Caralee) Hand and later divorced.

He married LaJuana Godfrey in 1975, and acted as a father to her children:  Darwin Gary Roush (Maxine), Penni Crowther (Rick), Patti Zierse (Bill), Diane Johnson (Bob). 23 grandchildren and 111 great grandchildren.  

Wendall was a stalwart member of the LDS Church.  He held numerous callings over the years, and served several missions including Switzerland, Munich, and a welfare and temple mission.

Wendall is preceded in death by his parents and two sisters. He loved music.  He played the piano, violin, and harmonica.  He was an avid gardener, and enjoyed fishing and doing genealogy.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 6 at 11:00 a.m. in the Hunter Villa ward, 3450 South 6400 West, West Valley City. Friends may call at the ward prior from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m.  Interment will follow at Wasatch Lawn Cemetery 3401 S. Highland Drive.  Online guestbook available at russonmortuary.com.
