Lane K. Merritt passed away peacefully at his home in Centerville, Utah, the evening of April 26, 2024, following a ten-year battle with cancer. He was born September 7, 1963, in Indianapolis, Indiana. His parents are George K Merritt and Winifred Purcell Merritt.
He grew up in Bountiful, Utah and graduated from Bountiful High School. He married Kimberly Matts and later divorced.
Lane lived an active life. He loved camping and hunting with his grandparents in Alton, Wyoming. He would have enjoyed life had he been born in the 1800’s because he was a real outdoorsman. He made himself a full-size teepee, tanned a buffalo hide and made himself a leather suit out of it which he wore to several Mountain Man Rendezvous.
He loved motorcycles and rode to Sturgis several times, raced cars at Raceway Park, participated in snowmobile races, did competitive cowboy shooting, and drove semi-trucks cross country.
His major occupation was installing fire protection sprinklers in buildings. He loved restoring old cars and was very good at it. He was artistic and painted the cartoon character Rat Fink on everything. He was a licensed Rat Fink artist.
Lane was a hard worker, very organized, generous, kind, honest, and a loyal friend.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Haley, his beloved animals who were his companions for years, his father George, sister Ann, niece Megan Hodges, and nephew Joshua Egginton. He is survived by his mother, sister Linda and her family, nephew Max Merritt, and niece Kelsi Parker.
A special thanks to all the doctors and nurses at Huntsman, the Cancer Wellness Center and Hospice who have loved and cared for Lane through these long years.
