Larry David Waite

June 24, 1947 — April 26, 2021

Larry David Waite was born June 24, 1947.  He was raised in Syracuse, Utah by Victor Smith and Elizabeth Waldron Waite.  He died April 26, 2021 of heart failure. He grew up with a love of horses and the outdoors.  He was the oldest of five children: Shirlene (Breon) Jacobs of South Ogden, Rick (Maurine) Waite of West Jordan, Kaylene (Greg) Johnson of Island Park, Idaho, and Annette (Brett) Smith (deceased).

He graduated from Clearfield High School in 1965 and married his high school sweetheart, Tekla Jeppesen.  They were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple and together they raised seven children: Michelle (Jim) Hyde of Kaysville, Andrea Louise (Matt) Bottema of Phoenix, Arizona, Stephanie (Brady) Nixon of American Fork, Michael David (Cherelle) Waite of West Point, Kristine (deceased), Denise (Corey) Taylor of Hooper, and Shaunalyn (Brett) Setterlund of Kona, Hawaii.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He served in various callings in the church and valued his time serving as Bishop of the Syracuse 9th ward.

Larry was a hard worker and began earning a living at RC Willey.  He then worked for the U.S. Government and after 35 years, he retired to the golf course.  He funded his golf addiction by driving a school bus for Davis County School District during his retirement.

Larry loved camping, four wheeling, hunting, golfing, snowmobiling, biking, and fishing.  His favorite pastime was being with his family.  He has 21 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren with another 4 on the way.  He and Tekla also welcomed a bonus son, Matthew (Opie) Neskahi into their home for a time.

He is preceded in death by his daughter Kristine, his father Vic, and his sister Annette.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, April 29th from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Russon Mortuary in Syracuse.  There will also be a viewing on Friday, April 30th from 9:30-10:30 a.m. with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. at the chapel located at 1650 South 1100 West, Syracuse.  Internment to be held at the Syracuse City Cemetery.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the many friends and family who have provided support during this time.
