Larry Maurice Gwynn

Larry Maurice Gwynn passed away on November 19, 2023, at the age of 88. He was born March 24, 1935, in Monterey Park, California to Maurice and Ruth Gwynn. He was the oldest of four children. He attended Montebello High School where he sang with the acapella choir, his junior and senior years. He served as the first seminary president in the Montebello Ward Seminary. He graduated from Montebello High School in June 1953.

Larry attended Brigham Young University until he left on his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in August 1954 to the Central States Mission. Shortly after returning home from his mission, he enlisted in the California National Guard’s 40^th Division, Armored Field Artillery. He married Colleen Lister, who he dated before his mission, on March 12, 1958, in the Los Angeles temple.

Larry had a successful career in banking, he graduated from the American Institute of Banking. He retired from First Security Bank in March 1997. Larry was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  He was a faithful home teacher/ministering brother. He served his family, ward family, neighbors, and community in many ways. He enjoyed traveling, home projects, spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, playing games with family, and listening to church hymns.

Larry is survived by his spouse Colleen Gwynn, children Cindy (Ken) Averett, David Gwynn, Jeff (Lynnette) Gwynn, Sharon (Cory) Davis, 12 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and sister Ruth Parker.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents, Maurice and Ruth Gwynn, brother Dennis Gwynn, and sister Joan Means.

A viewing will be held Monday, November 27, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. – 10:40 a.m. at Haight Creek Stake Center, 1520 Fox Pointe Drive, Kaysville, Utah followed by funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Larry will be laid to rest in Kaysville City Cemetery, 500 E. Crestwood Road.

The service will be streamed live on the Russon Brothers Mortuary Facebook page and on this obituary page. The live stream will begin 10-15 minutes prior to the service and will be posted below.
