Larry James Faddis

Our dear father, brother and grandfather passed away on March 16, 2020 due to conditions associated with advanced age.
Larry James Faddis was born in Superior, Wyoming on November 26, 1936 to James Sloan Faddis and Mabel Hansen Gunderson.  As a boy, his family moved frequently.  Sometimes, he attended more than one school in the same year.  Moving from Wyoming to California and finally settling in Price, Utah.  It was in Price where he met his future wife of 63 years, Helen Liddell in junior high school.  They dated throughout the rest of their school years and both graduating from Carbon High School in 1954.
After marrying upon graduation, Larry took a job in Winnemucca, Nevada hauling potatoes where he decided that was not what he wanted to do the rest of his life.  Returning to Price, Larry hoped to get a job working in the coal mines alongside his father.  However, upon applying, he was immediately rejected by the hiring supervisor who told him his father had forbidden him to hire his son under any circumstances.  
Disappointed, Larry and Helen moved back into his parent's basement apartment and enrolled in Carbon College.  After completing a two-year degree, he packed up his family, which now included a daughter, and moved to Logan, Utah where he completed his under-graduate degree in accounting at Utah State University.
Following graduation, Larry accepted a job in Vernal, Utah with Ashton Brother's furniture.  Realizing there was not much room for job growth in a family-owned company, he again moved with his wife, daughter and one-year old son to Bountiful, Utah to work for Army Audit at Fort Douglass.
Following the birth of his second son in 1963, Larry accepted a promotion and transfer with his family to Frankfurt, Germany.
Upon returning from Germany in 1965, Larry joined the Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) where he would serve for the next 25 years.  As an auditor for DCAA, Larry elected to travel so his family could remain fixed in Bountiful, Utah.  Shortly after joining DCAA, Larry served a little over two years in Saigon, Republic of Vietnam investigating the loss of military supplies through the black-market.  It was during this assignment that the Tet Offensive was launched which resulted in Larry hunkering down in his apartment for a week with nothing but a sidearm, a case of Coca-Cola and a bag of rice.  He used his hardship duty pay to buy his wife a baby-grand piano.
In 1994, after 30 years of Federal service, Larry retired from DCAA on a Friday afternoon and began a new job, the following Monday, working as an auditor for the Department of Health and Human Services for the State of Utah.  After a little over a decade, he retired from the State, again on a Friday afternoon, and began the following Monday working for the Davis County School District as an auditor – where he remained employed until his death at the age of 84.
Larry was a devoted husband and father and was deeply committed to his family.  It was as a father, that perhaps his greatest challenge and demonstration of charity and commitment occurred.  Following a tragic automobile accident in December of 1985, he lost one son and his youngest son became 100% permanently disabled.  Larry and Helen spent the next 35 years of their lives attending to their youngest son's needs by providing care and support for him in their home.  
Family meant everything to him.  He loved his children and grandchildren dearly and it is due to his love that he will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.  We know he is enjoying a great reunion with his wife and son.
Larry is survived by his children Lisa (Joe) Pettegrew, David (Jill) Faddis, Robert Faddis, his sister Pat (Sherwood) Peterson, six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Liddell Faddis, son Scott Faddis, granddaughter Michelle Pettegrew and sister Bonnie Slack.
Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, services were conducted in a private ceremony in his home in Bountiful, Utah on March 21, where he was surrounded by his children and grandchildren. Larry is interred at the Bountiful Cemetery beside his wife Helen and son Scott.
