Larry N. Jensen, 71, passed away on January 8, 2012, succumbing to cancer. Born June 22, 1940, the third son of Leonard E. and Elva L. Jensen. Reared in the Poplar Grove neighborhood of Salt Lake City, attended West High School class of ’58 where he was active in music, drama, and athletics. He courted his high school sweetheart JoAnn Pearce, an avenues girl, whom he married in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple on May 6,1960. They have been married 51 years. To that union six children were born; Laurie L.(Bruce) Davies, H. Craig(Lorraine), Gary R.(Michelle), Stacey A.(Richard) Bushell, Jennifer(Gary) Ashby, Julie A.(Kurt)Church. He leaves 22 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren. He joined the Utah Air National Guard in his senior year in high school and served 20 years throughout the Vietnam War years. He was a true red Ute having earned 3 degrees from the University of Utah; B.S.,’66, M.S. ’71, Ed.D.’78. Dr. Jensen’s love of teaching lead to his professional career in Public Education. He served as a Science Teacher at Highland High School, Salt Lake City Schools, Principalships at Star Valley High School, Afton, Wyo., West High and Bryant Intermediate Schools in the Salt Lake City Schools, and Superintendent of Schools in the Cache County Schools, Utah. His professional public service spanned 32 years. Retirement was filled by travel with his wife, family, cabin, woodworking, gardening, reading and writing. He characterized his life as ‘something from nothing’ and found life’s meaning through hard work. He was a good, honest, charitable man, gone now, will be missed. He is preceded in death by his parents, and bothers, David L. and Dean G. Jensen and survived by his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Farmington Rock Chapel, 270 North Main Street. A viewing will be Friday, January 13, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Russon Brothers Farmington Mortuary, 1941 N Main Street, and from 9:45 to 10:45 prior to the funeral at the chapel. Interment at Farmington City Cemetery.
