Laura Darice Quinney Nilson, of Holladay, stepped forward to join her mother Sharalyn and her sister Lisa, on December 23, 2020. After a 16 year battle with cancer, Laura passed away in her home, surrounded by her husband, their three children and their spouses and her grandson.
Laura was born in Provo Utah on June 29, 1961 to Gary and Sharalyn Quinney. Laura grew up in the Top of the World area of Salt Lake City and graduated from Brighton High in 1979. She attended Dixie College and served an LDS mission to the Dominican Republic. Upon her return she attended the University of Utah where she met the love of her life, Frank. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in child development in 1986. Laura and Frank were married in the Salt Lake Temple in April of 1987.
Laura was a preschool teacher at Holladay Preschool for over 20 years. Her fun, bright personality was a delight for all the children who were fortunate to have her as their teacher. The preschool staff and children were a support and blessing to her for which she was grateful.
Laura was a kind and caring woman, always holding her family, friends and faith as most important, and was known for putting the needs of others above her own. As a member of the Salt Lake Olympus First ward, she fulfilled her church callings with diligence and charm, creating life-long friendships as she served alongside her neighbors and ward members. Her favorite callings included primary chorister and multiple callings in the Young Women’s program.
Being a mother was always Laura’s number one goal and calling. Laura was a determined woman and refused to leave this earth until her children were raised. She devoted her life to her children, and they in turn have been equally devoted to her. Thank you Sar, Madi & Zack for your constant love, concern and care for her.
The extra blessings during her last few years included her being able to attend her children’s weddings, and to meet her first grandchild.
The family would like to thank Dr. Gregory Litton and the staff at Utah Cancer Specialists for the excellent care they have provided for Laura over the years. Additionally, we would like to thank both Laura’s and Frank’s families for their constant loving care and support.
She is survived by her husband, Franklin, their three children and their spouses, Sarah (Braden) and their son Eli, Maddie (Jordan) and Zack (Sydney). She is also survived by her father Gary and her siblings Doug, Linda, Danny, Caroline and Christi, and their spouses and children. She is preceded in death by her mother Sharalyn and her sister Lisa.
The family will hold a private service on Wednesday December 30th at 11 a.m. The service will be streamed live on the Russon Mortuary and Crematory Facebook page.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Holladay Preschool in memory of Laura.
